Job Summary
The Unit Head Credit will provide leadership and oversight of the credit function, ensuring effective credit risk management, compliance with lending policies, and sound portfolio performance.
The role will deputise the Head of Credit and oversee credit analysis, credit administration, approvals, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement of credit processes.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Risk Management & Leadership
- Deputise the Head of Credit and provide leadership support to the credit function.
- Champion overall credit risk management within agreed policy frameworks.
- Provide effective leadership and oversight of:
- Credit analysis functions.
- Credit administration activities.
- Approve credit facilities within delegated approval limits.
- Ensure compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements.
- Promote proactive risk awareness and management.
Customer Experience & Service Delivery
- Ensure delivery of excellent customer experience through timely credit processing.
- Execute credit activities within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Maintain efficient turnaround times for credit applications.
Credit Portfolio Management
- Ensure sound portfolio performance within approved risk appetite limits.
- Analyse credit risk on applications and provide appropriate recommendations or approvals.
- Monitor account performance and emerging credit risks.
- Track accounts in excess and provide feedback to relevant business teams.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of internal and external credit reports.
- Maintain continuous engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support effective communication between credit, business, and other departments.
Audit, Compliance & Process Improvement
- Manage internal and external credit audits.
- Champion timely closure of audit findings in line with agreed timelines.
- Ensure lending practices comply with:
- KCB credit policies.
- Bank of Tanzania (BOT) prudential lending guidelines.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of:
- Credit processes.
- Policies.
- Products.
- Knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Daily Responsibilities
- Analyse credit applications and provide recommendations or approval decisions.
- Ensure compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor application turnaround times.
- Perform daily review of disbursement reports.
- Track excess accounts and provide business-level feedback.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Business.
- Accounting.
- Finance.
Added Advantage:
- Professional qualifications such as:
- ACIB.
- CPA.
- Master’s Degree in:
- Business Administration.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 9 years of professional experience in banking, credit management, or related financial services roles.
- Strong experience in:
- Credit risk management.
- Loan assessment.
- Credit portfolio monitoring.
- Banking operations.
- Regulatory compliance.
