Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA) is a fully-fledged private university owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). The university is located in Usa-River, approximately 16 km from Arusha City along the Arusha–Moshi Road.
With a vision of being a Christ-centred Higher Education Institution for excellence and hope, TUMA focuses on teaching, research, and community engagement through academic and outreach programmes.
The university is implementing the Participatory and Inclusive Teaching Approach (PITA) Project under the Faculty of Education, Humanities and Science. The project aims to provide in-service training to lower secondary school teachers in remote schools within Meru District Council, focusing on:
- Competence-based teaching approaches.
- Student guidance and counselling services.
TUMA invites applications from qualified and competent Tanzanian citizens for the following positions:
1. Assistant Accountant
Department: Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA)
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for:
- Processing payments, receipts, and other financial transactions.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate accounting records and financial reports.
- Conducting bank reconciliations and general accounting reconciliations.
- Following up on tax obligations and other compliance requirements.
- Assisting with audit activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- Diploma in Accountancy from a recognized institution.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of at least one accounting software package such as:
- QuickBooks
- Pastel
- Minimum of two (2) years’ professional working experience.
- High level of ethical integrity and accountability.
2. Guidance and Counselling Advisor
Project: Participatory and Inclusive Teaching Approach (PITA)
Key Responsibilities
Working together with a team of educators, the Guidance and Counselling Advisor will:
- Develop in-service training modules covering school guidance and counselling frameworks.
- Mentor teachers by equipping them with skills to address:
- Academic challenges
- Emotional challenges
- Behavioural challenges among students
- Develop practical guidance and counselling resources, toolkits, and manuals for schools.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- Master’s Degree in any of the following:
- Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology
- Master of Arts in Applied Social Psychology
- Master of Education in Education Psychology
Academic requirements:
- Minimum GPA of 4.0 at Master’s level.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 at undergraduate level.
Experience:
- At least two (2) years’ experience, preferably in:
- Educational settings
- School-based counselling
Additional requirement:
- High level of ethical integrity and accountability.
3. Project Assistant
Project: Participatory and Inclusive Teaching Approach (PITA)
Key Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will support the Project Coordinator and project team in implementing project activities.
Key duties include:
- Coordinating meetings, workshops, and project events.
- Participating in community-based project activities.
- Supporting project communication, administration, and documentation.
- Assisting with:
- Field data collection
- Data entry
- Data analysis
- Monitoring and evaluation activities
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development from a recognized institution.
- Minimum GPA of 3.5.
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ professional experience in project implementation.
- Experience in education-sector projects or NGOs is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office:
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of ethical integrity and accountability.
Remuneration
Successful candidates will be offered remuneration according to the TUMA Salary Scale and will work in a positive and supportive academic environment.
