Job Summary
Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a skilled Belt Jointer Expert responsible for conveyor belt splicing, repair, inspection, and maintenance activities. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with steel cord and nylon fabric conveyor belts, ensuring reliable conveyor operations while maintaining high safety standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Belt Splicing and Repair
- Perform hot and cold vulcanization to join belt ends of steel cord and nylon fabric conveyor belts of various specifications.
- Install mechanical fasteners to repair weak joints or damaged sections of conveyor belts.
- Carry out belt replacement activities and ensure proper jointing procedures are followed.
- Calculate required belt lengths, including allowances for:
- Jointing margins
- Belt elongation
- Take-up requirements
Inspection and Maintenance
- Regularly inspect conveyor systems for:
- Damage
- Wear
- Misalignment
- Perform preventive maintenance on conveyor belts and related equipment.
- Identify defects and recommend corrective maintenance actions.
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate belt maintenance tools and equipment, including:
- Belt cutters
- Grinders
- Hydraulic vulcanizing presses
- Electric vulcanizing presses
Safety Compliance
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and regulations.
- Strictly adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during repair and maintenance activities.
- Maintain safe working practices in heavy industrial environments.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of:
- Belt conditions
- Repairs performed
- Maintenance activities
- Vulcanizing materials inventory
- Material expiry dates
- Recommend procurement actions for required belt maintenance materials.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- ITI Fitter qualification or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional training in:
- Hot vulcanization techniques
- Cold vulcanization techniques
- Steel cord conveyor belt jointing
- Nylon fabric conveyor belt jointing
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of hands-on experience in:
- Belt splicing
- Conveyor belt maintenance
- Belt jointing operations
- Proven experience working with both:
- Fabric conveyor belts
- Steel cord conveyor belts
Required Technical Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of conveyor belt types and splicing methods.
- Excellent practical skills in hot and cold vulcanization.
- Experience with different pulley lagging techniques, including:
- Rubber pulley lagging
- Ceramic tile pulley lagging
- Ability to perform conveyor belt replacement and maintenance independently.
- Ability to work in challenging industrial environments involving:
- Heavy lifting
- Climbing
- On-site maintenance activities
