Position Summary
The Engineer 2 – Software – Fleet Management System is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing Mining Fleet Management and Fatigue Management systems. The role ensures reliable software, hardware, and network performance to facilitate safe and efficient mining operations while providing production data, equipment monitoring, and technical support.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Management System (FMS)
- Support Fleet Management and Fatigue Management software and hardware.
- Install, assemble, configure, and maintain field computers (PTX), GPS antennas, radio antennas, and SmartCap systems.
- Perform daily inspections of Fleet Management equipment.
- Develop preventive maintenance plans for FMS hardware.
- Troubleshoot software, electrical, mechanical, and network issues.
- Conduct quality inspections on tools and consumables.
- Install and manage Dispatch software for production users.
- Configure user access and monitor system performance.
- Conduct software configuration audits.
- Maintain Minecare system installations and monitoring.
SmartCap / Fatigue Management
- Install and configure SmartCap hardware and software.
- Repair and maintain fatigue management equipment.
- Conduct operator and supervisor training.
- Provide refresher training for SmartCap users.
Network Infrastructure
- Install network access points, hubs, and communication devices.
- Design and implement network topology in mining areas.
- Conduct network surveys and drive tests.
- Optimize wireless network coverage.
- Install and troubleshoot tower-mounted access points.
- Commission and decommission network devices.
- Design standalone power solutions for remote sites.
Technical Support
- Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Use hand and power tools for installations and repairs.
- Provide technical support to operations teams and Minecare Dispatchers.
- Design small engineering solutions for technical workstations.
- Maintain FMS spare parts and tools inventory.
- Prepare monthly inventory reports.
- Maintain proper workplace housekeeping.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Fleet Management System Superintendent.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Computer Engineering
- Telecommunication Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- or another related engineering field
- Modular Mining Certificate or equivalent mining dispatch software certification.
- Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence (Class B, D, F, or G).
- Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
Experience
Applicants should have:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mining operations.
- Experience managing Modular Mining Software or similar mining dispatch systems.
