Job Overview
FHI 360 is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Supply Chain Management to provide strategic and technical leadership in strengthening Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services.
The successful candidate will oversee initiatives aimed at ensuring sustainable access to safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable health commodities. The role will lead supply chain strategy development, implementation, performance monitoring, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Direction
- Set the overall strategic direction for the supply chain portfolio and establish measurable performance indicators aligned with project objectives and donor priorities.
- Provide leadership to ensure achievement of supply chain objectives, deliverables, and performance targets.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to the supply chain team, promoting accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Lead supply chain work planning processes and ensure alignment with approved budgets and annual work plans.
Program Management and Oversight
- Ensure donor, operational, financial, and program requirements are met within timelines and quality standards.
- Oversee implementation of supply chain activities and monitor progress against work plans, milestones, indicators, and budgets.
- Identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide oversight of consultants, sub-partners, and technical advisors involved in supply chain activities.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL)
- Coordinate with strategic information teams to strengthen monitoring, evaluation, learning, and adaptive management systems.
- Analyze supply chain performance data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Oversee preparation and quality assurance of donor reports, technical updates, presentations, and other project deliverables.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and performance indicators.
Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
- Serve as the key focal point for engagement with government institutions, donors, implementing partners, and other stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with national and sub-national stakeholders to strengthen sustainability of supply chain interventions.
- Represent the project in technical working groups, stakeholder meetings, and relevant external forums.
Knowledge Management and Quality Improvement
- Collaborate with communication and knowledge management teams to document and share supply chain achievements, innovations, and best practices.
- Promote evidence-based approaches to improve supply chain performance.
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations, organizational policies, and national guidelines related to supply chain and pharmaceutical management.
Education Requirements
- Master’s Degree or international equivalent in:
- Public Health
- Supply Chain Management
- Institutional Development
- Or a related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management certification is preferred.
Experience Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience.
- At least 3 years of leadership and line management experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects in developing countries.
- Experience leading large and complex supply chain or health supply chain technical assistance projects.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in supply chain or pharmaceutical management projects, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Experience working with government counterparts, donors, and implementing partners.
- Proven ability to manage large-scale projects and high-performing teams.
- Knowledge of supply chain innovations, product availability improvement, visibility, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
Salary Range
The expected annual basic salary range for this position is:
TZS 90,000,000 – TZS 130,000,000
Salary determination will consider factors including experience, education, internal equity, market conditions, and organizational budget.
