Job Summary
The Branch Credit Sanctioning Analyst is responsible for reviewing, challenging, and approving credit applications within delegated lending authority.
The role ensures independent and high-quality credit decisions while balancing business growth with effective risk management. The position provides oversight of credit assessments prepared by Credit Analysts, ensures compliance with bank policies, and serves as a final control point for credit risk acceptance at branch level.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Approval and Risk Decision Making (60%)
- Review, approve, or decline credit applications within delegated lending authority.
- Critically assess credit proposals prepared by Credit Analysts, ensuring:
- Accuracy and completeness of credit analysis.
- Proper financial and risk assessment.
- Compliance with credit policies.
- Apply independent judgment and credit expertise when sanctioning facilities.
- Identify:
- Key credit risks.
- Risk mitigation measures.
- Conditions required before approval.
- Ensure all credit approvals comply with:
- Retail Credit Policy.
- Bank risk appetite.
- Regulatory requirements.
- Escalate applications beyond delegated authority to appropriate approval levels.
- Return or reject incomplete applications with clear justification and guidance.
- Monitor:
- Credit concentration risks.
- Portfolio performance trends.
- Sector exposure.
- Maintain strong controls against:
- Fraud.
- Customer misrepresentation.
- Policy breaches.
- Verify that:
- Suspended branches or customers are not processed.
- Employer confirmations and customer due diligence are completed.
- Participate in credit committees where required.
2. Oversight of Credit Assessment Process (10%)
- Provide guidance and constructive challenge to Credit Analysts on complex applications.
- Ensure consistent and high-quality credit underwriting standards.
- Support improvement of credit assessment processes and methodologies.
- Review structured lending and secured loan proposals to ensure they are well assessed.
3. Loan Structuring and Conditions Management (10%)
- Recommend appropriate loan structures, pricing considerations, and risk mitigation measures.
- Ensure all collateral and security requirements are sufficient and enforceable.
- Approve conditions relating to:
- Collateralization.
- Legal documentation.
- Insurance requirements.
- Valuation reports.
4. Stakeholder Engagement (5%)
Collaborate with:
- Legal Department.
- Treasury Team.
- Security Management Unit (SMU).
- Branch Network.
Key duties include:
- Ensuring proper coordination on loan structures, collateral requirements, and disbursement readiness.
- Providing timely feedback on credit decisions to support business turnaround times.
5. Portfolio Risk Monitoring and Governance (10%)
- Monitor approved loan facilities to identify emerging credit risks.
- Support portfolio reviews and risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in:
- Credit policy reviews.
- Risk appetite assessments.
- Credit governance framework improvements.
6. Compliance and Regulatory Adherence (5%)
- Ensure all credit approvals comply with:
- Internal NBC policies.
- Regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on changes in banking regulations and credit policies.
- Support internal audits and implementation of corrective actions.
- Maintain proper documentation of credit approval decisions for audit purposes.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
- Finance
- Banking
- Business Administration
- Commerce or related fields
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years and above experience in credit, lending, banking, or related financial services.
