Job Summary
The Credit Sanctioning Analyst is responsible for reviewing, challenging, and approving credit applications within the delegated lending authority.
The role ensures independent and high-quality credit decisions by balancing business growth with effective risk management. The position provides oversight of credit assessments prepared by Credit Analysts, ensures compliance with credit policies, and acts as a key control point for credit risk acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Approval and Risk Decision Making (60%)
- Review, approve, or decline credit applications within delegated lending authority.
- Evaluate credit proposals submitted by Credit Analysts to ensure:
- Accuracy and completeness of analysis.
- Proper financial and risk assessment.
- Compliance with credit policies.
- Apply independent judgment and credit expertise when approving facilities.
- Identify key risks, risk mitigation measures, and approval conditions.
- Ensure all credit decisions comply with:
- Retail Credit Policy.
- Bank risk appetite.
- Regulatory requirements.
- Escalate applications beyond approval limits to higher authorities.
- Reject incomplete or non-compliant applications with clear explanations.
- Monitor:
- Portfolio concentration risks.
- Credit trends.
- Sector exposure.
- Maintain strong controls against:
- Fraud.
- Misrepresentation.
- Policy violations.
- Confirm that:
- Suspended branches or customers are not processed.
- Employer verification and due diligence procedures are completed.
- Participate in credit committees when required.
2. Oversight of Credit Assessment Process (10%)
- Provide guidance and challenge Credit Analysts on complex credit cases.
- Ensure consistency and quality in credit underwriting standards.
- Support improvements in credit assessment processes.
- Review structured lending and secured credit proposals.
3. Loan Structuring and Conditions Management (10%)
- Recommend suitable loan structures, pricing considerations, and risk mitigation measures.
- Ensure collateral and security requirements are adequate and enforceable.
- Approve conditions relating to:
- Collateralization.
- Legal documentation.
- Insurance requirements.
- Property valuations.
4. Stakeholder Engagement (5%)
Collaborate with:
- Legal Department.
- Treasury Team.
- Security Management Unit (SMU).
- Branch Network.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring alignment on loan structures, collateral requirements, and disbursement readiness.
- Providing timely feedback on credit decisions to business teams.
5. Portfolio Risk Monitoring and Governance (10%)
- Monitor approved credit facilities to identify emerging risks.
- Support portfolio reviews and risk remediation strategies.
- Contribute to:
- Credit policy reviews.
- Risk appetite assessments.
- Credit governance improvements.
6. Compliance and Regulatory Requirements (5%)
- Ensure all credit approvals comply with:
- Internal banking policies.
- Regulatory standards.
- Stay updated on regulatory and policy changes.
- Support audit processes and closure of audit findings.
- Maintain proper documentation of approval decisions for audit purposes.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
- Finance
- Banking
- Business Administration
- Commerce or related fields
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in credit, banking, lending, or related financial services roles.
