About the Internship

WWF International’s Youth Engagement Programme provides opportunities for young professionals through internships, youth-led grassroots leadership programmes, and mentorship opportunities. The programme aims to inspire young environmental advocates and leaders to contribute to youth and community-led conservation.

Through the People Powering Biodiversity (PPB) Project, WWF Tanzania is implementing initiatives aimed at accelerating the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) through community-led conservation approaches. The project focuses on empowering local communities, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to actively participate in biodiversity conservation.

Internship Purpose

The intern will support the Senior Project Officer – PPB in establishing and strengthening youth networks within the Ruvuma Landscape. The role will help increase youth participation, leadership, and ownership in biodiversity conservation activities.

The intern will contribute to connecting youth groups with conservation initiatives, supporting youth engagement activities, documenting outcomes, and ensuring youth perspectives are integrated into conservation planning and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Youth Network Development

• Support establishment and strengthening of youth networks at landscape level.
• Promote meaningful youth participation in biodiversity conservation activities.
• Facilitate youth-centered conservation initiatives and engagement platforms.
• Support youth leadership and ownership of conservation actions.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a link between WWF and strategic youth networks, including the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN).
• Engage with youth groups, communities, government officials, and conservation partners.
• Support integration of youth perspectives into community-led conservation programmes.

Project Support, Monitoring & Reporting

• Provide operational and logistical support for youth meetings, workshops, and campaigns.
• Assist in tracking youth engagement activities and project progress.
• Document outcomes, lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
• Support reporting on youth participation and conservation activities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Academic Qualifications

Applicants should have a degree in one of the following fields:

• Wildlife
• Forestry
• Environmental Studies
• Community Development
• Social Studies
• Related fields

Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience engaging with youth initiatives and networks.
• Minimum 1 year experience in project management and coordination.
• Familiarity with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

• Strong communication skills, including writing and presentations.
• Ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
