WWF-Tanzania is inviting applications from young Tanzanian professionals for the Water Tower Landscape Internship under its Youth Engagement Programme. The internship provides practical experience in conservation, sustainable landscape management, climate-smart agriculture, and community-based natural resource management.

About the Internship

The WWF Youth Engagement Programme aims to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates and leaders by providing young professionals with opportunities to contribute to conservation and community-led environmental initiatives.

The Water Tower Landscape Internship will support WWF Tanzania’s conservation programmes within the Great Ruaha River Catchment and the Her Resilient Our Planet (HROP) project implemented in partnership with CARE International and local organizations across the SAGCOT region.

The project focuses on strengthening climate resilience, improving food security and livelihoods, empowering women and youth, and promoting sustainable agriculture and biodiversity-friendly practices.

Internship Purpose

Under the supervision of the Project Executant, the intern will support implementation of project activities by working with WWF project teams, implementing partners, local government authorities, and communities.

The intern will contribute to:

• Integrated water and land resource management.
• Community-based natural resource management (CBNRM).
• Climate-smart agriculture initiatives.
• Environmental education and livelihood development activities.
• Sustainable landscape restoration efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Support organization of community activities including tree planting, tree nursery establishment, and watershed management initiatives.
• Assist in delivering training on agroforestry systems and nature-positive land and water management practices.
• Support alternative livelihood initiatives such as beekeeping and aquaculture.
• Assist village land-use planning activities.
• Support development of community restoration and conservation action plans.
• Assist in establishing and supporting school environmental clubs.
• Support implementation of Natural Resource Management (NRM) strategies.
• Work with communities, government authorities, and project partners to implement conservation activities.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Project Executant.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should have:

• A graduate qualification in:
  • Natural Resources Management
  • Forestry
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Agriculture
  • Integrated Water Resources Management
  • Related environmental fields

Preferred Experience

• Experience engaging with rural communities and farmer groups.
• Knowledge of natural resource management, climate-smart agriculture, and environmental conservation programmes.
• Understanding of agroecology and agroforestry practices.
• Experience supporting community mobilization activities.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively to remote project villages across five districts in three regions (over 50% travel).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
• Strong teamwork, networking, and interpersonal skills.

• Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA).
• Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA).
• Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
• District Councils and Local Government Authorities.
• Local communities and conservation organizations.
