Job Overview
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is seeking a qualified Budget and Grants Officer to support financial proposal budgeting, donor-funded project budget management, and grants administration.
The successful candidate will ensure that project budgets comply with donor requirements, organizational policies, financial procedures, and regulatory standards while supporting effective implementation of research projects.
Key Responsibilities
Budget Development & Monitoring
- Support preparation, review, and monitoring of project budgets.
- Ensure budgets are:
- Accurate
- Realistic
- Aligned with grant proposals
- Compliant with funding conditions and organizational policies
- Monitor budget performance and support financial decision-making.
Grants Administration & Compliance
- Ensure financial terms comply with:
- Donor requirements
- Organizational standards
- Financial procedures
- Legal obligations
- Support administration of donor-funded grants.
- Maintain accurate grant and budget documentation for:
- External audits
- Regulatory reviews
- Compliance checks
Contract & Partner Management
- Assist in partner contract development, including:
- Engagement
- Negotiation support
- Contract close-out procedures
- Coordinate with legal teams and grants/contracts officers on partnership agreements.
Financial Reporting & Stakeholder Support
- Build effective working relationships with:
- Funding partners
- Project teams
- Internal departments
- External stakeholders
- Support project teams in meeting reporting requirements, including:
- Financial reports
- Scientific reports
- Donor reports
- Assist auditors and regulatory bodies by preparing required documentation and responding to inquiries.
Systems Improvement & Coordination
- Collaborate with:
- Finance department
- Procurement department
- Program teams
- Support improvements in grants and contracts management systems.
- Help optimize workflows related to:
- Budgeting
- Reporting
- Compliance
- Documentation
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Familiarity with ERP or accounting software.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Budget management
- Grants administration
- Financial operations
- Donor-funded project management
- Understanding of:

Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Accountancy
- Finance
- Economics
- Related fields
Added Advantage:
- CPA qualification.
Experience Required
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in:

- Project budgeting
- Grants management
- Related financial roles
Language & Communication Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
