Position Overview

WWF Tanzania is seeking a Manager, WWF GEF Portfolio to lead the coordination, development, and oversight of WWF-funded Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects in Tanzania.

The role will focus on identifying new project opportunities, managing project development processes, ensuring compliance, supporting implementation, and strengthening collaboration between WWF, government institutions, and development partners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Identification & Pipeline Development

• Identify and develop WWF GEF project opportunities in Tanzania.
• Collaborate with government institutions and partners to develop project concepts.
• Prepare concept notes and project documents aligned with national priorities and GEF requirements.

2. Project Development & Quality Assurance

• Coordinate projects throughout the full project cycle.
• Provide technical guidance for effective project design.
• Ensure compliance with WWF and GEF policies.
• Manage internal review and submission processes.

3. Portfolio Oversight & Implementation Support

• Monitor implementation of WWF GEF projects.
• Support project partners in solving challenges and improving delivery.
• Track project risks, safeguards, compliance, and reporting requirements.
• Ensure timely reporting to WWF GEF Agency.

4. Government & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as WWF Tanzania’s focal point for GEF-related coordination.
• Build relationships with ministries, institutions, and partners.
• Ensure projects align with national development strategies.

5. Representation & Capacity Building

• Represent WWF in GEF-related meetings and coordination platforms.
• Train and support government, partners, and WWF teams on GEF processes.
• Share lessons learned to improve WWF GEF systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in:
  • Environmental Science
  • Economics
  • Public Policy
  • Related fields

Experience

• 6–8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong experience in:
  • Project design and management.
  • Working with Tanzanian government institutions.
  • Managing environmental/development projects.
  • GEF or similar multilateral funding mechanisms.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent project coordination abilities.
• Strong writing and reporting skills.

• Fluency in English and Swahili.
