Position Overview

Barrick is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter – CAT Maintenance professional to join its maintenance team. The role focuses on maintaining heavy mobile mining equipment, improving equipment reliability, supervising maintenance activities, and developing technical skills among maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Conduct inspections according to mine standards and OEM specifications.
• Plan, assign, and supervise daily, weekly, and major maintenance activities.
• Lead mechanical maintenance teams and ensure quality execution of work.
• Improve equipment reliability by reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
• Train and coach junior and senior local employees.
• Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor maintenance KPIs including:
  • Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF)
  • Mean Time To Repair (MTTR)
  • Equipment availability
  • Maintenance backlog
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS systems.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and equipment manufacturers on improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Technical/Vocational qualification, apprenticeship training, VETA, FTC, IMTT Trade Test, or equivalent.
• Ability to read engineering drawings for open-cast mobile equipment.
• Computer literacy in:
  • MS Excel
  • Word
  • PowerPoint
  • Outlook
  • ERP/CMMS systems (SAP, Ellipse, Pronto, Oracle, etc.)

Required Experience & Skills

• 7–10 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter/Trainer.
• Strong experience with heavy mobile equipment in mining or heavy industrial environments.
• Open-cast mining equipment experience is essential.
• Experience with Sandvik machines.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Mechanical fitting
  • Mobile equipment maintenance
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Maintenance management systems
• Experience supervising teams and transferring technical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure mining environment.
