Job Purpose
People Project is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company operating in Tanzania seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the safe, efficient, and commercially responsible operation of its mineral processing plant.
The successful candidate will oversee daily plant operations, production performance, metallurgical optimization, maintenance coordination, safety compliance, and cost management.
This leadership role is suited for an experienced mineral processing professional with a strong operational background and proven ability to improve production performance, optimize processes, and build high-performing teams within a mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plant Operations & Production Management
- Lead daily operations of the mineral processing plant to achieve:
- Production targets
- Recovery targets
- Product quality standards
- Develop and implement:
- Production plans
- Operating procedures
- Key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Maximize:
- Plant throughput
- Recovery rates
- Product quality
- Minimize:
- Downtime
- Process losses
- Operating costs
- Monitor and optimize processing circuits including:
- Crushing
- Grinding
- Screening
- Gravity concentration
- Leaching
- Other mineral processing activities
- Analyze production and metallurgical data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Prepare:
- Daily production reports
- Weekly performance updates
- Monthly operational reports
- Production forecasts
2. Process Improvement & Technical Excellence
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor metallurgical performance and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate:
- Metallurgical accounting
- Production reconciliation
- Inventory records
- Support:
- Plant commissioning
- Expansion projects
- Debottlenecking initiatives
- Process modification projects
- Ensure operating procedures align with industry best practices.
3. Maintenance & Asset Management
- Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to develop:
- Preventive maintenance programmes
- Predictive maintenance strategies
- Ensure high equipment availability and reliability.
- Monitor and control consumption of:
- Fuel
- Power
- Water
- Reagents
- Chemicals
- Operating consumables
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers and contractors to ensure:
- Quality workmanship
- Technical compliance
4. Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop:
- Plant supervisors
- Operators
- Technicians
- Support teams
- Build a high-performance culture focused on:
- Accountability
- Safety
- Operational excellence
- Continuous improvement
- Manage:
- Performance reviews
- Workforce planning
- Succession planning

5. Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Promote a strong safety culture across all plant operations.

- Safety improvement initiatives
- Ensure environmental controls and statutory reporting requirements are achieved.
6. Financial & Commercial Management
- Prepare and manage plant budgets and operating costs.
- Monitor expenditure and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Support:
- Procurement planning
- Supplier management
- Contractor performance monitoring
- Ensure effective control of:
- Spare parts inventory
- Operating consumables
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mineral Processing
- Metallurgy
- Chemical Engineering
- Related Engineering discipline
Added advantage:
- Professional registration or membership with a recognized engineering or mining body.
Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in mineral processing operations.
- At least 3 years’ experience in:
- Plant Manager role
- Senior Plant Superintendent role
- Similar operational leadership position
- Strong experience in:
- Gold processing operations (highly preferred)
- Mineral processing plant management
- Production planning
- Metallurgical accounting
- Maintenance coordination
- Operational budgeting
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams in:
- Mining environments
- Remote operational locations
- Experience with:
- Plant commissioning
- Plant expansion
- Process optimization projects
- Experience working in Tanzania or the East African mining sector is highly desirable.
