Job Purpose
People Project is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company in Tanzania seeking an experienced Hydrologist / Water Management Specialist to lead the assessment, development, and sustainable management of water resources supporting mining, processing, and site infrastructure operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing groundwater and surface water resources, developing water management strategies, overseeing hydrological investigations, ensuring reliable water supply, and maintaining compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Water Resources Assessment & Management
- Conduct hydrological and hydrogeological assessments to support:
- Mining operations
- Mineral processing activities
- Site infrastructure development
- Evaluate groundwater potential and identify:
- Suitable borehole locations
- Drilling depths
- Groundwater development programmes
- Assess:
- Surface water catchments
- Seasonal flows
- Drainage systems
- Runoff characteristics
- Flood risks
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive site water balance covering:
- Water abstraction
- Storage
- Processing requirements
- Recycling
- Discharge
- Water losses
- Forecast current and future water demand for:
- Plant operations
- Mining activities
- Accommodation facilities
2. Groundwater & Surface Water Monitoring
- Plan and supervise:
- Borehole drilling activities
- Aquifer testing
- Pump testing
- Groundwater monitoring
- Water quality sampling
- Establish monitoring systems for:
- Groundwater resources
- Surface water
- Water quality
- Analyze hydrological and hydrogeological data to support:
- Operational planning
- Environmental management
- Interpret water quality results and recommend corrective actions.
3. Engineering & Infrastructure Support
- Provide technical input into the design and review of:
- Boreholes
- Pumps
- Pipelines
- Storage tanks
- Drainage systems
- Culverts
- Water ponds
- Water management infrastructure
- Work with engineering teams to ensure reliable and efficient water systems.
- Support site expansion projects through specialist water management advice.
4. Project & Contractor Management
- Coordinate activities involving:
- Drilling contractors
- Laboratories
- Engineers
- Environmental consultants
- Surveyors
- Government authorities
- Prepare:
- Technical specifications
- Scope of work documents
- Tender documentation
- Contractor evaluations
- Project budgets
- Monitor contractor performance to ensure:
- Safety compliance
- Quality delivery
- Technical compliance
5. Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Prepare:
- Hydrological studies
- Technical reports
- Monitoring summaries
- Risk assessments
- Management recommendations
- Present technical findings to management and project stakeholders.
- Train site personnel on:
- Water monitoring procedures
- Responsible water use
- Environmental practices
- Promote sustainable water management practices across operations.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Hydrology
- Hydrogeology
- Water Resources Engineering
- Geology
- Civil Engineering
- Related discipline

Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in:
