Job Summary
The Seascape Conservation Officer will coordinate the day-to-day implementation of AFO programmes across the Mtwara Seascape.
The role involves planning, coordination, field implementation, monitoring, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and supporting conservation programmes in remote coastal environments.
The successful candidate will work across marine and coastal conservation, fisheries co-management, blue carbon, blue finance, sustainable livelihoods, community engagement, and MEAL activities.
Key Responsibilities
Conservation & Programme Implementation
- Coordinate conservation programme implementation across the Mtwara Seascape.
- Support marine and coastal ecosystem conservation and restoration.
- Support blue carbon and blue finance initiatives.
- Coordinate fisheries co-management activities with BMUs, VLCs, CFMAs, government authorities, and implementation partners.
- Support community engagement, conservation awareness, and sustainable livelihood programmes.
Field Operations & Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate field logistics and remote field operations.
- Coordinate AFO teams and implementation partners.
- Engage communities, government authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Represent AFO in local coordination meetings and stakeholder forums.
Monitoring, Reporting & Learning
- Monitor and document progress against programme goals.
- Support monitoring, reporting, learning, and donor documentation.
- Prepare narrative reports on programme activities and progress.
- Maintain implementation trackers, workplans, meeting records, and field reports.
Project & Financial Management
- Support management of programme budgets.
- Ensure expenditures remain within approved limits.
- Support procurement processes.
- Review consultancy deliverables.
- Coordinate team meetings and internal programme processes.
Partnerships & Fundraising
- Contribute to blue-finance initiatives.
- Support partnership development.
- Contribute to proposal preparation.
- Maintain communication with donors.
- Represent AFO at official events when required.
Team Supervision
- Oversee field teams.
- Provide guidance and support to staff during programme implementation.
- Coordinate technical specialists, community institutions, government authorities, and potential financing partners.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
- Marine Science
- Fisheries
- Coastal Resource Management
- Environmental Science
- Natural Resource Management
- Community Development
- Conservation Biology
- Geography
- Project Management
- Related field
Experience
At least 3 years of relevant experience in areas such as:
- Programme coordination
- Marine conservation
- Fisheries management
- Coastal resource management
- Community development
- Coastal livelihoods
- Related field implementation

Driving Requirement
A valid driving licence and driving skills are mandatory.
