Job Purpose

The Branch Manager will provide branch leadership, team development, customer experience management and business growth while ensuring profitability, strong operational controls and compliance.

The position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the branch and its agencies, maintaining high banking standards and effective risk controls.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial & Business Growth – 60%

  • Develop and implement strategies to acquire new customers and increase business from existing clients.
  • Monitor branch performance and prepare regular reports.
  • Manage portfolio risks within the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Drive cross-selling across Asset Finance, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Direct Sales, Bancassurance and Securities.
  • Manage borrowing and non-borrowing customer accounts.
  • Review products based on market feedback and customer needs.
  • Conduct market intelligence and identify business opportunities and regulatory trends.
  • Prepare and review the branch’s annual strategy.
  • Identify and leverage the branch’s geographic and market strengths.

2. Internal Controls & Risk Management – 10%

  • Ensure compliance with branch controls, security procedures and business continuity plans.
  • Ensure adherence to KYC, AML and operational risk requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and timely reports.
  • Manage cheque referrals and collection of due fees.
  • Control branch operating costs.
  • Conduct supervisory checks and ensure audit exceptions are closed promptly.
  • Fulfil branch custodian responsibilities.

3. Customer Experience – 10%

  • Deliver excellent customer service while meeting business targets.
  • Ensure compliance with turnaround-time (TAT) requirements.
  • Address customer complaints and feedback promptly.
  • Maintain a professional branch environment.
  • Ensure ATMs, CDMs and other banking channels remain operational.
  • Build customer loyalty through proactive engagement.

4. Brand, Product & Business Proposition – 10%

  • Guide branch staff on business objectives and market priorities.
  • Monitor local market trends and competitor activities.
  • Ensure compliance with merchandising and branding standards.
  • Brief staff on promotions and monitor sales performance.
  • Develop relationships with key customers and local influencers.
  • Support product specialists in marketing to local businesses.
  • Represent the bank at marketing, CSR and community events.

5. Learning, Growth & People Management – 10%

  • Build and maintain a high-performing and motivated team.
  • Set staff performance objectives and conduct appraisals.
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback and training.
  • Plan branch resources and succession arrangements.
  • Manage leave, performance, disciplinary and grievance matters.
  • Ensure staff complete required learning and e-learning programmes.

Academic Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
  • Minimum Upper Second Class or GPA 3.0.
  • A Master’s degree is an added advantage.

Professional Qualifications

The following are advantageous/relevant:

  • AKIB
  • CPA (K)
  • CSAPs

Work Experience

Candidates should have:

  • At least 8 years’ experience in banking.
  • Strong exposure to:
    • Branch Operations
    • Credit Management
    • Business Development
  • At least 4 years in management-level roles.
