Job Purpose
The Data Protection Officer is responsible for identifying and reporting data protection and regulatory compliance exceptions or violations and ensuring timely corrective action.
The role focuses on compliance with data protection regulations, consumer protection requirements, and regulatory reporting obligations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Internal Customer & Business Efficiency – 50%
Data Protection
- Develop and implement data protection systems, mechanisms, and procedures in accordance with local and international data protection laws.
- Define data protection compliance obligations for each functional area and department.
- Clearly allocate data protection responsibilities across the Bank.
- Assist employees in understanding and applying relevant data protection laws.
- Keep staff informed about changes in local and international legislation and industry developments.
- Recommend improvements to systems and procedures where necessary to strengthen the Bank’s data protection programme.
- Coordinate and maintain relationships with regulators under the supervision of the Compliance Manager.
- Facilitate communication and information gathering concerning the Bank’s data protection obligations.
- Conduct an annual data protection risk assessment.
- Prepare reports on the Bank’s data protection compliance status.
- Provide timely, accurate, relevant, and value-adding reports to Management, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Deliver and facilitate training on compliance and financial risk matters.
2. Customer – 30%
- Drive customer satisfaction by adhering to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Provide timely feedback to relevant stakeholders.
- Support effective resolution of data protection and compliance-related matters.
3. Financial – 10%
- Monitor compliance-related expenses.
- Ensure compliance costs remain within the approved budget.
4. Learning & Growth – 10%
- Identify personal development and training needs.
- Develop plans for continuous professional improvement.
- Strengthen motivation and presentation skills.
- Improve communication and effectiveness in executing responsibilities.
Academic Qualifications
Required:
- University degree.
Added Advantage:
- Professional qualification or postgraduate qualification in:

- Law
The qualification should be from a recognized institution.
Work Experience
- 1.5–3 years of working experience in a banking environment.
- Experience should provide sound exposure to:
