Job Overview

Barrick Africa Middle East is seeking an Instrumentation Technician to join its team at the North Mara Gold Mine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation and process-control systems while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with Barrick’s health, safety, and environmental policies and applicable regulations.
• Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) incidents and issues.
• Conduct daily maintenance inspections and maintenance activities on plant equipment.
• Complete maintenance work documentation according to established procedures.
• Maintain plant equipment in accordance with company operating policies and SOPs.
• Follow isolation and lockout permit procedures.
• Maintain adequate stock of instrumentation components, including:
  • Pressure sensors
  • Temperature sensors
  • Valves
  • Flow meters
• Troubleshoot process-control problems and resolve engineering issues.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and apply the 5S principle.
• Identify plant defects and required maintenance.
• Understand plant operations and control philosophy.
• Report safety hazards and equipment defects to the supervisor.
• Monitor and maintain flow, feed processes, and water quality.
• Inspect, test, adjust, calibrate, and repair electrical, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems.
• Record calibration activities, components used, and parts inventory.
• Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, electronic, and PLC systems.
• Interpret engineering specifications, schematics, drawings, and blueprints.
• Conduct proper shift handovers.
• Identify plant performance deviations and take corrective action.
• Complete assigned projects accurately and within required timelines.
• Maintain equipment and work areas according to engineering and housekeeping standards.

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• Degree or Diploma in:
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Instrumentation
  • Industrial Automation
• Instrumentation Trade Test Certificate

Experience Required

• Minimum 2 years of post-Trade Test experience.

• VETA Driving Certificate.
• Valid Tanzanian driving licence covering Class B, C, D and E.

Candidate Profile

This is a specialized industrial instrumentation role, so the strongest candidates will have a combination of formal instrumentation/electrical/electronics training, a Trade Test certificate, and at least two years of practical post-Trade Test experience.

The most important technical requirements are PLC systems, SCADA, industrial instrumentation, process control, fault finding, and plant maintenance. The requirement for a VETA Driving Certificate and Class B, C, D and E Tanzanian driving licence is also important.
