Job Purpose
The Maintenance Planner will manage maintenance systems, spare parts, routine and planned maintenance schedules, and support maintenance teams in executing maintenance activities while ensuring the required Permit-to-Work procedures are in place.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Scheduling
- Generate routine maintenance schedules covering cleaning, lubrication, and inspection tasks.
- Coordinate schedules with Production, Engineering, and support teams.
- Allocate maintenance resources and resolve work allocation issues.
- Monitor completion of routine maintenance and autonomous maintenance tasks.
- Maintain accurate maintenance system records and administration.
- Identify and report maintenance scheduling problems and non-compliance.
Maintenance System Management
- Support commissioning or modification of maintenance systems.
- Ensure maintenance system data is accurate, complete, and properly maintained.
- Plan maintenance work and generate schedules and work orders using the maintenance system.
- Analyse maintenance data to identify failure modes and root causes.
- Communicate maintenance problems requiring corrective action to engineering teams.
Maintenance Planning
- Lead planned maintenance pre-meetings and identify required work and resources.
- Prioritise ad hoc maintenance tasks and generate work requests.
- Determine and allocate resources for planned maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with departmental heads to secure required resources.
- Reschedule incomplete work to subsequent maintenance periods.
- Lead maintenance postmortems and document lessons learned.
Problem Solving
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques to maintenance problems.
- Coordinate additional resources when required.
- Assist team members with maintenance-related problem solving.
- Participate in functional failure analysis when required.
Asset Care Coordination
- Ensure maintenance and cleaning days and annual shutdown programmes are completed.
- Ensure asset care activities comply with required standards.
- Ensure required spare parts are available within budget and on time.
- Identify training needs for machine specialists and shift teams.
- Analyse SAP maintenance data to identify recurring problems.
- Coordinate maintenance resources during maintenance and shutdown activities.
- Participate as a subject matter expert in asset-care problem-solving sessions.

Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of production engineering experience.
- Solid experience using SAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Good understanding of maintenance processes and practices.
- In-depth knowledge of utility plant equipment and processes.
- Assertive leadership and good people-management skills.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability.
