Job Summary
NCBA Bank is seeking a Senior Credit Analyst to support the Head of Credit Analysis and Approvals in managing an assigned portfolio and conducting credit analysis and underwriting of corporate credit applications.
The role works closely with Relationship Managers to structure transactions in line with the bank’s credit policy, risk appetite, and approval requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Analysis & Underwriting – 40%
- Underwrite and submit credit proposals in accordance with Credit Policy.
- Work with Relationship Managers to structure credit transactions.
- Collect and analyze client financial information, including:
- Annual reports
- Management accounts
- Interim financial reports
- Relevant press and market information.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of assigned customer relationships.
- Compile and review account statistics and facility information.
- Ensure credit proposals contain accurate information and appropriate analysis.
- Review existing customer facilities within required timelines.
- Prepare requests for the New Business Committee (NBC).
- Prepare minutes for NBC meetings.
- Monitor customer financial covenants using an up-to-date covenant tracker.
- Identify and communicate covenant breaches.
- Enforce applicable breach penalties.
- Prepare covenant reports for credit decision-making.
- Produce reports and insights relating to credit risk.
2. Credit Operations & Internal Processes – 30%
- Review draft offer letters to ensure they reflect approved terms and conditions.
- Review property and other valuation reports submitted by Credit Operations.
- Identify discrepancies and recommend corrections.
- Participate in reviewing credit policies, product papers, and processes.
- Recommend improvements to credit-management procedures.
- Support and coach Retail and SME Credit Analysts.
- Accompany Relationship Managers on customer visits.
- Prepare and maintain client call reports.
- Respond promptly to queries from clients, Credit Administration, Risk Control, branches, and customers.
- Make recommendations on new and existing customers across various loan products.
- Submit credit recommendations to appropriate approval authorities within required turnaround times.
- Prepare excess requests and notifications and follow up for approval.
- Monitor account performance daily to ensure customers operate within approved limits.
3. Customer & Stakeholder Management – 20%
- Build positive working relationships with staff across different levels.
- Support effective resolution of credit and customer-related issues.
- Promote teamwork and the bank’s values.
- Maintain required SLA, Turnaround Time (TAT), and Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) standards.
- Serve as an effective interface between the bank, customers, and prospective customers.
4. Learning & Development – 10%
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through training and professional development.
- Participate in educational workshops and professional networks.
- Strengthen coaching, problem-solving, presentation, communication, and writing skills.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and advice to assigned staff.
- Support implementation of changes aimed at improving credit management.
Academic Qualifications
The candidate should have:
- Any degree from a recognized university.
- Qualification in Credit Management, Accounting, or Banking.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CFA, etc., are an added advantage.
- Strong general banking knowledge.
Experience Required
- Minimum 4 years of banking experience.
- Experience as a Relationship Manager or Credit Analyst.
- Strong working knowledge of banking policies, processes, procedures, and internal controls.
- Practical understanding of banking practices used in making credit decisions.
- Corporate Banking experience is an added advantage.

Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be an experienced banking Credit Analyst or Relationship Manager with at least four years of experience and strong exposure to credit appraisal, financial analysis, loan structuring, credit proposals, covenant monitoring, and portfolio management.
Experience in Corporate Banking and professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or CFA would provide an additional advantage.
