Job Purpose

The Senior Relationship Manager will manage a portfolio of corporate customers in the Oil & Gas sector, acting as their primary banking contact and financial advisor.

The role is responsible for growing revenue, profitability, customer relationships and the bank’s share of wallet by acquiring new customers, developing existing accounts, and recommending suitable banking solutions.

The position may also serve in an acting capacity for the Head of Corporate Banking, Nairobi Region, when assigned.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Performance – 40%

  • Deliver annual P&L and balance-sheet targets for the assigned portfolio.
  • Drive balance-sheet growth and portfolio profitability.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase:
    • Revenue
    • Profit Before Tax (PBT)
    • Market share
    • Customer share of wallet
  • Maintain PAR within approved limits.
  • Keep NPL below 5%.
  • Aggressively manage PAR within the first 30 days to prevent accounts from becoming NPLs.
  • Develop performance scorecards aligned with portfolio growth objectives.

2. Internal Business Processes – 20%

  • Ensure compliance with approved bank policies and procedures.
  • Provide feedback to improve policies and maintain competitiveness.
  • Ensure audit issues are resolved within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain zero repeat audit findings.
  • Achieve 100% SLA adherence.
  • Maintain 100% adherence to agreed turnaround times.

3. Customer Management – 20%

  • Drive customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop and grow relationships with existing and prospective corporate customers.
  • Identify and pursue business-development opportunities.
  • Provide insights that support product development.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM information.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction through measures such as:
    • Net Promoter Score (NPS)
    • Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI)
    • Relationship Satisfaction Index (RSI)

4. Learning & Growth – 20%

  • Achieve agreed individual performance objectives.
  • Maintain and implement a personal development plan.
  • Participate in coaching, training and development opportunities.
  • When assigned to lead a team:
    • Motivate, coach and develop team members.
    • Maintain an average team performance rating of 90%.
    • Keep competency assessments and development plans up to date.
    • Maintain strong product knowledge across the team, with a target average rating of 98%.
    • Ensure adequate staffing to prevent business disruption.
    • Promote employee engagement.
    • Demonstrate effective leadership based on 360-degree feedback.

Academic Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized and accredited university.

Professional Experience

  • At least 8 years of experience in Commercial Banking.
  • At least 3 years in a management position within a similarly sized organization.
