Geotechnical Technician – Barrick
Barrick Gold Corporation is seeking a Geotechnical Technician to join its Africa Middle East technical team.

Main Responsibilities
The role supports the Geotechnical Engineer in maintaining safe ground conditions across mining operations. Key duties include:
- Conduct daily inspections of underground headings, stopes, pits, dumps and sumps.
- Perform geotechnical core logging and maintain geotechnical databases.
- Conduct underground and open-pit geotechnical mapping.
- Supervise scaling activities and protect berm crests.
- Conduct pre-stope inspections and support stope documentation.
- Install and monitor ground-movement monitoring systems.
- Assist with ground-support and paste-fill designs and QA/QC.
- Conduct pre- and post-blast geotechnical assessments.
- Supervise geotechnical drilling activities.
- Track seismic and slope-stability radar data.
- Perform laser scanning and maintain rock-noise records.
- Assist with numerical modelling and slope-stability assessments.
- Maintain dilution and geotechnical performance databases.
- Prepare inspection reports, tracking sheets and monthly/quarterly reports.
- Conduct QA/QC of installed ground-support systems, including pull testing and extensometer monitoring.
- Maintain stocks of ground-support consumables.
- Promote health and safety and ensure compliance with mining regulations and company procedures.
Qualifications
Applicants need:
- Diploma or Degree in:
- Mining Engineering
- Geology
- Civil Engineering
- or an equivalent qualification.
- Awareness of the Mines Health & Safety Act.
Experience & Skills
- 1–2 years’ experience in an underground or open-pit mining environment.
- Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
- Ability to drive a manual-transmission light vehicle.
- Basic knowledge of mine design and geotechnical investigation methods.
- Ability to collect and manage geological/geotechnical logging, mapping and monitoring data.
- Ability to prepare concise inspection reports and technical memos.
- Experience updating tracking sheets and geotechnical databases.
- Knowledge of geotechnical or mine-design software is an advantage.
- Strong teamwork and adaptability.
- Comfortable working underground and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ideal Candidate
This position is particularly suitable for a Mining Engineering, Geology or Civil Engineering graduate who has already gained some practical mine-site experience and wants to build a career in geotechnical engineering and ground-control operations.
