Role Summary

The Business Development Officer will drive commercial growth across East Africa by identifying, developing, and closing high-value enterprise technology opportunities. The role requires strong sales capability, technical understanding, and the ability to position AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and digital solutions to senior decision-makers.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales Pipeline

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across:
    • Banking
    • Telecommunications
    • Government
    • Large enterprises
  • Build and manage a strong, consistent sales pipeline
  • Manage full sales cycle from prospecting to contract closure

Client Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Build long-term relationships with:
    • C-suite executives
    • IT Directors
    • Procurement officers
  • Maintain and grow enterprise and government accounts
  • Drive upselling and cross-selling opportunities

Proposal & Solution Development

  • Develop technical proposals and commercial offers
  • Prepare and respond to:
    • RFPs
    • RFQs
    • RFIs
  • Work with technical teams to define scope and pricing

Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Monitor technology market trends and competitor activity
  • Identify new revenue opportunities in East Africa
  • Support go-to-market strategy development

Representation & Branding

  • Represent the company at:
    • Industry events
    • Conferences
    • Government forums
  • Strengthen brand visibility in the region

Sales Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Track pipeline and revenue forecasts using CRM systems
  • Report performance metrics to leadership
  • Analyze conversion rates and sales performance

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years experience in:
    • Business development
    • Enterprise sales
    • Technology consulting sales
  • Proven track record of meeting sales targets
  • Experience in complex enterprise sales cycles
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AI & automation
    • Cloud solutions
    • Cybersecurity
    • Managed IT services
  • Experience with CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.)
  • Experience with RFP/RFQ processes
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Business Administration
    • Marketing
    • IT / Computer Science
    • Related field
  • MBA is an added advantage

Preferred Skills

  • Selling AI, cloud, or data solutions
  • Government procurement experience (East Africa)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud ecosystems
  • Familiarity with MEDDIC / SPIN / Challenger sales methods
  • Account-based marketing (ABM) exposure
  • Network within banking, telecom, or government ICT sectors
  • Understanding of AI tools (Azure OpenAI, Power Automate, n8n)
  • Leadership or team management experience
