About the Opportunity
Jhpiego, through the RISE project, is seeking a BVD Preparedness Coordinator – Special Task to coordinate the day-to-day implementation of BVD preparedness activities in Kagera Region.
The position will support frontline health facilities, regional and council health teams, communities, and other stakeholders to strengthen outbreak preparedness, infection prevention and control, surveillance, risk communication, and community engagement.
The successful candidate will work closely with the RISE Technical Advisor, Kagera Field Team Leader, RHMT, CHMTs, health facilities, and community structures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Work Planning and Coordination
- Translate the approved BVD Preparedness Work Plan into detailed activity schedules and implementation plans.
- Coordinate activities across Kyerwa, Ngara, Misenyi, and Bukoba Municipal Council.
- Monitor implementation against approved budgets, timelines, and priorities.
- Maintain implementation trackers and identify and escalate bottlenecks.
2. Frontline BVD Preparedness
- Support health teams to strengthen early recognition of suspected BVD cases.
- Support temporary separation/isolation and safe referral procedures.
- Strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC), surveillance, and continuity of essential services.
- Coordinate facility-based tabletop exercises.
- Ensure appropriate availability and accountability of approved IPC and preparedness materials.
3. Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE)
- Coordinate engagement of facility-linked community change agents.
- Work with community leaders, traditional healer representatives, bodaboda representatives, venue managers, and other stakeholders.
- Promote early care-seeking, safe referral, IPC practices, and accurate health information.
- Establish feedback mechanisms between communities, health facilities, and council teams.
4. Government and Partner Coordination
- Serve as RISE’s operational focal point for BVD preparedness coordination in Kagera.
- Work with emergency partners and coordination mechanisms to ensure complementary implementation.
- Participate in relevant coordination and technical meetings.
- Coordinate with U.S. Government global health security implementing partners and other stakeholders as required.
5. Monitoring, Reporting and Accountability
- Maintain accurate activity records and supporting documentation.
- Track implementation against agreed indicators.
- Prepare concise weekly updates for the RISE Technical Advisor.
- Contribute to donor, government, and internal reporting.
- Support activity close-out, reconciliation of materials, documentation of lessons learned, and handover of outstanding actions.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Public Health
- Medicine
- Nursing
- Health Systems Management
- Epidemiology
- A related global health field
- At least 5 years of experience coordinating health programme implementation through regional, council, facility, and community structures in Tanzania.
- Demonstrated experience working with RHMTs, CHMTs, health facilities, and community stakeholders.
- Experience in a donor-funded or NGO environment is an advantage.
- Experience supporting:
- Outbreak preparedness and response
- Surveillance
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
- Emergency coordination
- Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE)
- Global health security activities
- Experience managing donor-funded health programmes.
- Familiarity with U.S. Government-funded programming is desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Kiswahili and English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.

- Excellent problem-solving and documentation abilities.
- Strong follow-up and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under short timelines.
- Willingness to be based in Kagera.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the region.
