About The Aga Khan School Tanzania

The Aga Khan School Tanzania (AKS, T) operates three schools, from nursery to secondary levels. Each school aims to provide quality education that imparts a broad set of personal and intellectual skills, developing independent inquiry and critical thinking abilities.

The origins of the Aga Khan schools in Tanzania go back to the 19th century, when a girls’ school was started around 1905 in Zanzibar by Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan III.

The focus of AKS in Tanzania is to implement educational programmes designed to assist students in acquiring life skills and an intellectual foundation that enables them to make their way confidently in a world increasingly characterized by globalization and technological advancement.

To meet the needs of diverse communities, AKS in Tanzania operates schools offering both National and International curricula.

Position Summary

The Communication and Marketing Officer will assist AKS, T with all communication activities, including internal and external strategies. This encompasses devising communication plans, responding to enquiries, creating content, briefing vendors, and overseeing the production and dissemination of marketing collaterals.

The ideal candidate should be a creative thinker and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a marketing plan to increase awareness of the school’s mission, programmes and activities.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies tailored to target audiences.
  • Conduct market research to identify opportunities for school promotions and branding efforts.
  • Handle internal communications, ensuring timely, accurate and clear messages across the school community.
  • Manage the school’s public relations efforts by preparing press releases, website content, internal reports, speeches and marketing materials highlighting school activities and success stories.
  • Coordinate the school newsletter, blog and social media platforms for regular engagement with school stakeholders, parents, staff, students and alumni.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
  • 3 to 4 years of relevant marketing experience, preferably in education or related sectors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating engaging and persuasive content.
  • Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms, including social media, email marketing and CMS.
  • Skills in article writing, graphic design and video editing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Basic graphic design skills and experience updating or producing content such as spotlights, stories and alerts.
  • Ability to track analytics, evaluate campaign performance and provide data-driven recommendations.
