Position: Credit Analyst – Mining Sector Financing (1 Position)

Job Purpose

To ensure timely and high-quality assessment of credit facility proposals (new and existing) based on sound credit principles, financial analysis, and risk management practices in order to minimize risk exposure to the bank.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct professional credit assessments for facility requests, including those in the mining sector
• Evaluate credit proposals against policy guidelines and financial principles to ensure acceptable risk levels
• Provide independent recommendations on credit approvals, including appropriate terms and conditions to mitigate exposure
• Review financial and operational information to understand business performance, profitability, and risk factors
• Defend credit decisions while maintaining strong business relationships
• Analyze market and industry data to identify risks affecting current and potential clients
• Collaborate with business units to improve proposal quality and reduce turnaround time
• Share joint responsibility for credit decisions with business teams
• Recommend remedial actions for deteriorating credit exposures
• Ensure compliance with SLAs without compromising credit quality

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Strong understanding of credit analysis and risk management, especially in the mining sector
• Good knowledge of banking credit products
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Ability to structure credit deals appropriately
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• Understanding of mining and related industry sectors and regulations
• Good interpersonal skills within a banking or credit environment

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a credit role within the banking sector
• Prior banking lending experience is an added advantage
