Job Summary

EPHA Hospital is seeking a qualified and compassionate Dental Therapist to provide preventive and basic restorative dental care to patients. The successful candidate will promote oral health, prevent dental diseases, and treat common dental conditions.

The Dental Therapist will work in collaboration with or under the supervision of a dentist, as appropriate, to improve access to dental services and support better oral health outcomes within the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Examine patients’ oral health and identify dental problems requiring treatment.
• Perform routine dental procedures, including filling cavities, scaling, and polishing teeth.
• Carry out simple tooth extractions, particularly primary teeth, within the authorized scope of practice.
• Apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants to help prevent tooth decay.
• Take and interpret dental X-rays as permitted by professional qualifications and scope of practice.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene, preventive dental care, and healthy habits.
• Develop appropriate treatment plans within the scope of professional practice.
• Assist in managing dental emergencies and refer patients when necessary.
• Maintain accurate patient records, treatment notes, and other relevant documentation.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, instrument sterilization, and hygiene procedures.
• Work collaboratively with dentists, dental hygienists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in community outreach activities and oral health education programmes.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Possess a Diploma or Degree in Dental Therapy from an accredited institution.
• Hold valid professional registration or a license to practise.
• Have sound knowledge of dental procedures and infection prevention and control.
• Demonstrate good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be able to provide appropriate dental care to both children and adults.
• Possess basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate patient records.
• Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety.
