United Nations Volunteers (UNV) is inviting applications for the position of Development Partners Group Associate Officer, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The assignment will be hosted by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) and will support development coordination, partnerships, policy dialogue, knowledge management and related activities.

Mission and Context

The UN Resident Coordinator is the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Tanzania and coordinates the work of the UN Tanzania Country Team, which consists of 23 UN agencies.

The Development Partners Group (DPG) Secretariat, hosted by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, supports coordination and engagement between development partners and the Government of Tanzania. Its work includes development cooperation, policy dialogue, financing approaches, mutual accountability and coordination of development partners.

Key Responsibilities

A. Support to the Development Partners Group (DPG)

  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations, reports and background materials for DPG activities.
  • Gather and compile information supporting DPG engagement with the Government of Tanzania under the Development Cooperation Framework.
  • Support the organization of DPG meetings, working group meetings and policy dialogues.
  • Prepare and circulate agendas, minutes and follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to briefs and information materials on national development priorities, including Vision 2050.

B. Support to the National Development Effectiveness Framework

  • Assist with activities related to development effectiveness and cooperation with the Ministry of Finance.
  • Support the Joint DPG-Government Secretariat in preparing and following up on meetings and activities.
  • Contribute to mutual accountability and policy coherence activities.
  • Support coordination and information-sharing with relevant counterparts, including in Zanzibar.
  • Assist in gathering information on development financing approaches and partnerships.

C. Programme Implementation and Development Coordination

  • Support day-to-day activities of the DPG Secretariat.
  • Assist with planning, coordination, documentation and follow-up of the annual workplan.
  • Collect and compile information on development cooperation trends, financing flows and emerging partnerships.
  • Contribute to programme updates, presentations and other documentation.

D. Support to the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team

  • Prepare information and analytical inputs related to UN engagement in development cooperation.
  • Contribute to activities supporting alignment between the UNSDCF and Tanzania’s development effectiveness priorities.
  • Gather information and prepare materials relating to DPG priorities and UN development cooperation.

E. Knowledge Management and Learning

  • Support knowledge-sharing activities related to development effectiveness.
  • Identify and document good practices and lessons learned related to development cooperation.
  • Contribute to knowledge products on policy coherence, mutual accountability, partnerships and development cooperation.

During the first month, the successful volunteer will work with the supervisor to finalize an agreed work plan covering key objectives, activities and regular progress reviews.

  • 18–80 years

Nationality

  • Candidates must be nationals of a country other than the country of assignment.

Additional Eligibility

The assignment is funded by CYVA, and the source states that candidates must be Chinese nationals affiliated with a university participating in CYVA’s programme.

Education

Applicants are required to have a:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Economics, International Development or a related field.

Language

  • English: Fluent — Required
