Reports To: General Manager & Regional CFO

The company is a fast-growing trade and digital finance business serving the logistics industry in emerging markets. Its flagship product is an alternative to container deposits. It frees up working capital for customers, lowers barriers to trade, and helps trade move more efficiently.

Job Purpose

The Finance Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day finance function and ensuring the delivery of accurate financial reporting, effective financial controls, robust cash flow management, and high-quality financial analysis.

The role will provide strategic thinking on business operations and direct support to the General Manager and Regional CFO in driving financial management, business planning, risk management, and strategic decision-making, while ensuring that the finance function effectively supports the operational and commercial objectives of the business.

The successful candidate will be a well-rounded finance professional with strong technical finance expertise, coupled with sound operational and commercial understanding. He or she will play a key role in strengthening financial discipline, improving business visibility, and supporting sustainable growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Control

  • Manage the Finance function and provide day-to-day leadership, guidance and oversight to Finance team members.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports and other reports.
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity through regular reviews of provisions, accruals, prepayments, reserves, and other key accounting estimates.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial records.
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure statutory payroll compliance, including PAYE, NSSF/WCF, SDL and other applicable levies.
  • Establish appropriate reconciliation processes and ensure timely reconciliation of all balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Establish, maintain, update and monitor robust financial control and governance frameworks, including finance policies, procedures, SOPs, segregation of duties, authorization limits, approval processes and compliance requirements, to safeguard company assets and ensure operational integrity.
  • Lead initiatives to automate and streamline manual processes.
  • Establish clear ownership and accountability for key financial processes.
  • Ensure compliance with local statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements, including timely preparation and submission of all statutory financial, tax and regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with transfer pricing requirements and maintain appropriate documentation for intercompany and related-party transactions across the region.
  • Manage and coordinate tax, internal and external audit activities.
  • Ensure audit findings and recommendations are properly addressed and closed within agreed timelines.

2. Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting

  • Lead the annual budget and forecasting processes.
  • Prepare and maintain rolling forecasts and business performance projections.
  • Monitor performance against budget and provide meaningful variance analysis.
  • Deliver accurate management reporting and business insights to support decision-making.
  • Prepare financial models and scenario analyses to assess risks and opportunities.
  • Support the Regional CFO with strategic planning initiatives and business performance reviews.

3. Treasury, Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Own the preparation and maintenance of short-, medium-, and long-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain a clear and reliable view of all future payment obligations.
  • Establish robust processes for tracking supplier commitments, statutory obligations, contractual commitments, and contingent liabilities.
  • Ensure appropriate visibility and management of contractual claims exposures and expected payouts.
  • Ensure the weekly cash flow forecasts and analyses highlighting risks, funding requirements, and management actions are prepared and reviewed.
  • Monitor and improve working capital performance, including receivables, payables, and cash conversion metrics.
  • Drive improvements in forecasting accuracy and cash management processes.

4. Business Partnering & Management Support

  • Act as the finance partner to operational, commercial and other departments.
  • Support and collaborate with other departments and management to ensure prudent decision-making while driving business growth and long-term sustainability.
  • Evaluate operational initiatives and provide financial recommendations.
  • Support management in identifying and implementing cost optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure that operational and commercial issues with financial impact are identified, quantified and escalated appropriately.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of key operational processes and recommend improvements.

5. Risk Management & Governance

  • Maintain oversight of financial risks and exposures across the business.
  • Ensure key financial risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated and documented through a risk register.
  • Maintain accurate records of actual and contingent liabilities.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external legal teams to validate and quantify financial exposure relating to claims, disputes, and litigation matters.
  • Strengthen governance processes and promote financial accountability across the organization.
  • Escalate significant or emerging risks to Management in a timely manner.
  • Ensure lessons from incidents, audit findings and control failures are incorporated into improved processes.

6. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, mentor, develop and supervise the finance team.
  • Ensure quality performance produced by the Finance team.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, continuous improvement and proactive problem solving.
  • Ensure clear allocation of responsibilities, deadlines, performance expectations and effective succession planning within the finance function.
  • Support the professional development of finance staff.
  • Build strong working relationships across departments and functions.

7. Strategic Support

  • Support the General Manager and Regional CFO in executing financial and business strategies.
  • Contribute to organizational planning and business improvement initiatives.
  • Provide financial leadership on key projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Prepare analyses and recommendations to support executive-level decision-making.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at improving profitability, efficiency, and long-term business sustainability.
  • Support the development of management information and key performance indicators across the business.

  • Reduced revenue leakage, control weaknesses and unresolved exceptions.
  • An accountable and efficient Finance function.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • 8–12 years of progressive finance experience, including financial control, management reporting, financial planning and analysis, business partnering and cashflow management, with at least 3–5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Certified CPA(T).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • Strong experience in management reporting and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial controls, process improvement and risk management.
  • Experience working closely with Operations, Commercial or other non-finance business functions.
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

Desirable

  • Experience in logistics, transport, shipping, trading, services or another operationally complex business.
  • Audit, risk or controls experience.
  • Experience designing or implementing finance processes and controls.
  • Experience developing management dashboards and KPIs.
  • Experience supporting senior management as a Finance Business Partner.
