Key Responsibilities: Overall Role Objectives
A Reconciliation Officer ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records by matching daily, weekly, at times monthly bank statements with the general ledger. The Reconciliation Officer identifies discrepancies, investigate imbalances, manage suspense accounts, and ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate has 2+ years’ experience, strong ERP knowledge, and team skills. The Reconciliation Officer reports to Financial Accountant.
Key Performance Indicators / Responsibilities & Expected Results Accounting
- Perform bank and NMOs (e.g., Mpesa, Tigo and Airtel) account reconciliations on a daily basis; and ensuring that banking transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger in a timely manner.
- Promptly following up reconciling items. Work with stakeholders to clear reconciling items in a timely manner. It involves providing ageing of reconciling items and commenting on actions for reconciling items.
- Daily monitoring of bank accounts including updating the daily bank reconciliation report and providing transactional information.
- Processing EFT payments and international payments in multiple currencies ensuring integrity with transactions, bank accounts and supporting documentation.
- Following up with Banks/MNOs on the reconciliation of charges related to contracts and agreement and report any anomalies.
- Processing balance transfers between bank accounts and ensuring sufficient balances exist as required.
- Analysis of short-term cash needs, providing forecast information and assistance to the Finance Manager regarding Term Deposits and maximizing interest revenue.
- Perform general ledger accounting, month-end and year-end close processes on time ensuring integrity and accuracy of financial information. It involves performing various general ledger reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Preparing and recommending items to be written-off/recognized as income on a quarterly basis.
- Proactively manage and ensure accounts are transparent and ‘clean’ by performing detailed analysis to clearly present statement of financial position “balance sheet” information in a succinct and logical manner.
- Maintain and prepare statistical reports with commentary as required.
- Assist the financial accountant to ensure day-to-day transactions such as accounts payable, cash receipts and accounts receivable, and payroll are recorded properly. It includes to verify, allocate, post and reconcile certain entries to the accounting system and ensuring proper revenue and expense recognition.
Key Performance Indicators / Responsibilities & Expected Results Reporting and standards
- Provide technical support and advice on accounting treatments.
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with fiscal requirements, financial policies and IFRS.
- Prepare information required for VFI reporting and assist with requests from VFI.
External reporting and compliance
- Support preparation of annual IFRS-compliant financial statements and answering queries thereon.
- Assist to prepare tax returns and estimations, assist with tax audits and tax returns.
Financial planning and management
- Continually seeking and implementing opportunities to streamline and improve finance and accounting operations.
- Assistance with audit including coordination of information, document management and various auditor queries and analysis.
- Participate in the budgeting and forecast process.
- Assist in responding to inquiries and provide support during inspections and audits by Internal Auditors, Bank of Tanzania, other regulators, and external auditors.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Required Specific Knowledge, Skills & Tools
- Proven experience in a related finance role (e.g., audit or accountant), for at least two
- years after graduating (post-studies, e.g., undergraduate degree).
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures, basic understanding of IFRS, awareness of business trends and familiarity with financial accounting statements.
- Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end financial close
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages. Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Accuracy and attention to detail, aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
- Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; CPA or equivalent will be preferred.

- Ability to interact with IDRAS system and facilitate tax filling and payments, will be added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting requirements and deliverables.

- Good knowledge of banking accounting requirements.
- Strong communication skills and a high level of accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Reporting Lines and Team Management
The Reconciliation Officer reports to the Financial Accountant; with no supervisory duties, may be required to supervise interns.
