Position: Financial Controller

BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited is seeking an exceptional Financial Controller to serve as the guardian of financial integrity and the second line of defense in one of Tanzania’s most critical controllership roles.

The successful candidate will oversee the entire financial control environment across a complex decentralized operation running on Temenos T24, ensuring that all financial information is accurate, auditable, and actionable from branch-level transactions to consolidated Board and regulatory reporting.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Lead the financial close process and ensure timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, data integrity, and governance frameworks across the organization.
  • Conduct financial performance analysis and variance reviews and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Strengthen fraud prevention mechanisms, monitor financial risks, and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports to management, the Board, regulators, lenders, and other stakeholders.

Governance & Compliance

  • Oversee financial governance of procurement and contracting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, approval frameworks, and value-for-money principles.
  • Strengthen controls over organizational expenditure and vendor management.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Tax regulations
    • VAT requirements
    • Statutory obligations
    • Regulatory requirements
    • Financial reporting standards

Budgeting & Planning

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor organizational performance against budgets and strategic objectives.
  • Provide scenario analysis and financial insights to support decision-making and capital management.

Audit & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with:
    • Auditors
    • Tax advisors
    • Regulators
    • Rating agencies
    • Development partners
    • Other key stakeholders
  • Coordinate audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Lead finance systems optimization and automation initiatives.
  • Drive effective use of:
    • Temenos T24
    • Power BI
    • Other digital tools
  • Improve efficiency, controls, and management decision-making.
  • Support continuous improvement of finance processes and management information systems.

Team Leadership

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance and controllership team.
  • Drive staff development and succession planning.
  • Support performance management and leadership growth.
  • Foster a culture of:

Safeguarding Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation.
  • Promote and implement safeguarding policies and standards.
  • Serve as a source of guidance and expertise on safeguarding matters.
  • Follow safeguarding reporting procedures and encourage others to do the same.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in finance and controllership.
  • At least 5 years serving as:
    • Financial Controller
    • Deputy Financial Controller
    • Head of Controls

within a large bank, microfinance institution (MFI), or non-bank financial institution (NBFI) managing a portfolio exceeding TZS 150 billion.

Technical Experience

Candidates must have experience with:

  • Core Banking Systems
  • Temenos T24
  • IFRS 9
  • Bank of Tanzania regulations
  • Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) compliance

Technical Skills

Must possess:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Power BI skills
  • SQL knowledge

Desirable:

  • RPA (Robotic Process Automation)
  • Python programming

Professional Qualifications

Required:

  • CPA (T)
  • ACCA
  • ACA
  • Equivalent professional accounting qualification

Preferred:

  • MBA
