Education & Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.

Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent is strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of financial accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Experience
-
7+ years of progressive accounting / finance experience.
-
At least 3 years in financial reporting, financial control, audit, or senior accounting leadership.

Experience in manufacturing, automotive, industrial, trading, or another inventory-intensive business is highly desirable.

Experience with ERP/accounting systems and external audits.

Role Purpose
People Project is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation in the manufacturing and industrial sector seeking an experienced, commercially minded, and technically strong Financial Controller to strengthen its Finance function in Tanzania.
The Financial Controller will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the organisation’s financial reporting, while maintaining robust financial controls, overseeing accounting processes, and supporting the Finance Director / Deputy CFO in delivering timely and accurate financial information for effective business decision-making.
General Responsibilities
Financial Reporting

Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Ensure timely and accurate preparation of the Statement of Profit or Loss, Statement of Financial Position, Cash Flow Statement, Trial Balance, General Ledger reports, and supporting schedules.

Review monthly management accounts before submission to the Finance Director / Deputy CFO and CFO.

Ensure financial reports accurately reflect the underlying operations of the business and investigate unusual movements, balances, and accounting entries.

Ensure proper period-end cut-off for revenue, purchases, expenses, inventory, and liabilities.
-
Review accounting estimates, accruals, provisions, prepayments, and intercompany balances.
Financial Controls
-
Establish, maintain, and continuously strengthen the Company’s internal financial control environment.
-
Ensure effective controls over revenue and collections, purchases and payables, inventory, fixed assets, cash and banking, payroll, expenses, and journal entries.

Review adherence to approval limits, financial authority procedures, and segregation of duties.
-
Identify control weaknesses, recommend corrective action, and ensure adequate documentation and audit trails are maintained.
Accounting Accuracy & General Ledger Control
-
Maintain overall responsibility for the integrity of the General Ledger.

Review significant and unusual journal entries and ensure all balance-sheet accounts are reconciled monthly.

Review bank, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and fixed-asset reconciliations.
-
Ensure suspense, clearing, and temporary accounts are regularly reviewed and cleared.
-
Ensure transactions are posted to the correct account, cost centre, department, and reporting period.
Month-End & Year-End Closing
-
Establish and enforce a formal monthly closing timetable and month-end closing checklist.

Ensure all accounting teams complete closing responsibilities within agreed deadlines.
-
Review closing journals, adjustments, reconciliations, and schedules before financial statements are finalised.

Coordinate annual financial closing activities and ensure outstanding accounting issues are resolved before reporting.
Audit Management
-
Act as a principal Finance Department contact for internal and external auditors.
-
Coordinate preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation, ensuring information is accurate and timely.
-
Review audit findings and management-letter points and coordinate corrective action.
-
Maintain audit readiness throughout the year and ensure previous audit findings are followed up and closed.
Inventory & Cost Accounting Control
-
Ensure inventory is accurately recorded and reconciled between accounting and operational records.
-
Review inventory valuation and costing methodologies for raw materials, work in progress, manufactured components, and finished goods.
-
Review inventory adjustments, write-offs, provisions, and physical stock-count variances.
-
Review manufacturing and vehicle-conversion costs for accounting accuracy and ensure landed costs and other directly attributable costs are appropriately accounted for.
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Control
-
Review customer and supplier ageing reports, reconciliations, advances, prepayments, credit notes, and account adjustments.

Monitor overdue, unusual, and long-outstanding balances and ensure differences are investigated and resolved.

Ensure payments are supported by valid documentation and authorised appropriately, and monitor duplicate or unusual payments.
Banking & Cash Controls
-
Provide accounting and control oversight over bank balances, borrowings, interest, bank charges, financing costs, and foreign-currency accounting.

Ensure bank balances reconcile to the General Ledger and cash transactions are appropriately supported and approved.
Compliance
-
Ensure accounting records comply with applicable accounting standards and Company accounting policies.

Ensure proper maintenance and retention of financial records.
-
Work with the Tax Manager and Finance Manager to ensure accounting information required for statutory filings is accurate.
Systems, Process Improvement & Team Leadership
-
Review accounting processes, strengthen ERP/accounting-system controls, and develop standardised procedures and checklists.
-
Improve automation and reduce unnecessary manual accounting processes while maintaining robust controls.
-
Provide technical accounting guidance to the Finance Manager / Chief Accountant and accounting team.
-
Establish standards for reconciliations, schedules, and financial reporting, and develop the technical capability of finance staff.
