About KNCU
The Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union (1984) Ltd is a farmer-owned cooperative union established in 1933 to promote the collective interests of smallholder coffee farmers in the Kilimanjaro Region.
The Union is legally registered under the Tanzania Cooperative Societies Act No. 6 of 2013, with registration number AFF-KJR-MSH-MC-2023-44, and operates across four districts: Siha, Hai, Moshi Rural and Rombo.
KNCU (1984) Ltd invites applications from suitable, qualified, dedicated, self-motivated and skilled persons to fill the position of General Manager.
Position Summary
The General Manager is the Chief Executive Officer of the Union and shall be accountable to the Managing Board.
Duties and Responsibilities
The General Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Recruit, support career development and take disciplinary action against subordinate employees in consultation with the Board.
- Coordinate the implementation of the Strategic Plan, Business Plan, action plans and organizational targets.
- Liaise with coffee industry regulators, coffee research institutions, local authorities, agricultural input suppliers, NGOs, religious institutions, financial institutions and other relevant stakeholders to support the sustainability and profitability of the coffee value chain.
- Ensure that effective performance management and reporting systems are in place and facilitate efficient communication.
- Ensure that all income and expenditure statements, balance sheets and other financial reports are prepared accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
- Implement recommendations made by external auditors, the Board and the Annual General Meeting, as well as findings and recommendations arising from investigative reports issued by relevant authorities.
- Ensure that accounting books and records are properly maintained and made available to auditors in a timely manner.
- Convene General Meetings of the Union in consultation with the Chairperson.
- Serve as Secretary at all General Meetings of the Union and meetings of the Board.
- Authorize and facilitate payment of salaries, allowances and other payments as approved by the Board.
- Handle disciplinary matters concerning employees under his or her supervision in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and the Union’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain good relationships with KNCU (1984) members and establish mutually beneficial business partnerships.
- Ensure compliance with and translate into implementation the Cooperative Development Policy, the Cooperative Societies Act, Cap 211 of 2025 and its Regulations, KNCU (1984) Ltd By-Laws, Strategic Plan and operational manuals in realizing DIRA 2050.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience
- Proven relevant work experience of at least 2 years in a managerial or related position.
Education
- Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Economics, Agriculture, Business Administration or Cooperative Management from a recognized institution.
Languages and Communication
- Strong communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.
- Good report-writing skills.
- Good data analysis skills.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Gantt Charts.
- Knowledge of Kobo Toolbox.
Competencies
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
