Invitation to Apply for Internship Opportunities for 2026/2027

The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) invites applications from qualified and motivated Tanzanian graduates for various internship opportunities for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The internship programme is designed to provide young graduates with practical workplace experience, professional mentorship, and opportunities to enhance their skills and competencies.

Available Internship Positions

1. ICT Technician – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of computers and audio-visual equipment.
  • Assist in ensuring that computers are in good working condition in computer laboratories.
  • Provide basic ICT assistance and technical support to end users.
  • Assist students during their practical sessions in the laboratories under supervision.
  • Carry out specified routine technical tasks as guided by the supervisor.
  • Perform any other relevant learning duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Computer Science from a recognized institution.

2. ICT Officer II – Network – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, install, and configure LAN and WAN infrastructure.
  • Review LAN and WAN architecture.
  • Test network equipment and devices.
  • Implement network security plans.
  • Perform network troubleshooting.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NTA Level 8) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

3. Technician II – Electrical – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out specified tasks related to electrical simulators, workshops, laboratory practicals, students’ projects, research, consultancy, offices, classes, and services under close supervision.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of electrical simulators, workshops, and laboratory facilities.
  • Assist senior staff in related areas of electrical operations.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

  • Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical Engineering; or
  • Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

4. Technician II – Refrigeration – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out specified tasks related to refrigeration and air-conditioning simulators, workshops, classes, offices, laboratory practicals, students’ projects, research, consultancy, and services under close supervision.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air-conditioning simulators, workshops, and laboratory facilities.
  • Assist senior staff in related areas of refrigeration and air-conditioning operations.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • Full Technician Certificate (FTC); or
  • Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering; or
  • Diploma in Mechanical/HVAC Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

5. Technician II – Civil – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out specified tasks related to civil engineering/construction workshops or laboratory practicals, students’ projects, research, consultancy, and services under close supervision.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of civil engineering workshops and laboratory facilities.
  • Assist senior staff in related areas of civil engineering operations.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • Full Technician Certificate (FTC); or
  • Diploma (NTA Level 6) in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

6. Artisan II – Plumbing – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform specified plumbing craft jobs under close supervision.
  • Record plumbing repair and maintenance reports.
  • Assist in conducting plumbing repair and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety and security of plumbing facilities and personnel.
  • Take care of plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Perform any other official duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • Form IV or Form VI Certificate of Secondary Education, plus:
    • Certificate in Plumbing; or
    • Trade Test II in Plumbing; or
    • National Vocational Award Level II (NVA II) in Plumbing; or
    • Equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

7. Artisan II – Carpentry – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform specified carpentry craft jobs under close supervision.
  • Record carpentry repair and maintenance reports.
  • Assist in conducting carpentry repair and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety and security of carpentry facilities and personnel.
  • Take care of carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Perform any other official duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • Form IV or Form VI Certificate of Secondary Education, plus:
    • Certificate in Carpentry; or
    • Trade Test II in Carpentry; or
    • National Vocational Award Level II (NVA II) in Carpentry; or
    • Equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

8. Public Relations Officer II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect and compile news for the Institute’s newsletter.
  • Collect and compile information to assist in the preparation of annual reports, booklets, speeches, prospectuses, and other publications.
  • Ensure proper recording and filing of press cuttings for public relations purposes and responses.
  • Assist in facilitating conferences, seminars, ceremonies, and the production of radio and television programmes.
  • Deal with customer inquiries relating to the quality and availability of services.
  • Supervise the production and distribution of calendars, diaries, greeting cards, and posters.
  • Report public criticisms and complaints to the immediate supervisor.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Mass Communication, International Relations, Business Communication, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.

General Conditions and Guidelines

1. Nationality

All applicants must be citizens of the United Republic of Tanzania.

2. Age Limit

Applicants must be between 18 and 45 years of age at the time of application.

3. Application Completeness

  • Academic certificates.
  • Academic transcripts.
  • Form IV/Form VI certificates.

5. Result Slips and Partial Documents

Result slips, testimonials, and partial transcripts will not be accepted.

6. Foreign Certificates

Applicants who studied outside Tanzania must ensure that their certificates are verified and evaluated by the relevant authorities, such as TCU or NECTA, as applicable.

This is an internship placement programme aimed at skills enhancement. Completion of the internship does not guarantee permanent employment with the Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute.
