Job Overview

The Lead Mechanical Technician will be responsible for advanced diagnostics, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modernization of diesel-powered port equipment and terminal assets.

The role focuses on ensuring maximum equipment availability, reliability, operational efficiency, and compliance with DP World safety, quality, and maintenance standards.

Equipment covered includes:

• Port tractors
• RTG cranes
• Forklifts
• Heavy material handling equipment
• Diesel engines and powertrain systems

Key Responsibilities

1. Diesel Engine Repair and Maintenance

• Perform advanced mechanical and electronic diagnostics on diesel engines and related systems.
• Conduct major and minor repairs on diesel engines used in terminal equipment.
• Perform engine overhauls, rebuilds, and complete reconstruction activities.
• Repair and maintain:
  • Fuel injection systems
  • Fuel pumps
  • Injectors
  • Engine components
• Implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
• Diagnose and resolve:
  • Engine performance issues
  • Emission faults
  • Operational failures
• Ensure repairs comply with OEM specifications and DP World maintenance standards.

2. Automatic Transmission Repair and Maintenance

• Conduct diagnostics and failure analysis of automatic transmission systems.
• Repair, refurbish, and rebuild transmission units.
• Replace damaged or worn transmission components.
• Perform:
  • Calibration
  • Adjustment
  • Testing
  • Commissioning after repairs
• Carry out preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime.
• Monitor transmission performance and recommend improvements.

3. Port Tractor Repowering and Modernization

• Participate in equipment upgrade and modernization projects.
• Upgrade:
  • Diesel engines
  • Powertrain systems
  • Mechanical components
• Improve:
  • Fuel efficiency
  • Reliability
  • Equipment productivity
• Support testing and commissioning after upgrades.
• Maintain technical records and project documentation.

4. RTG Crane Maintenance and Repair

• Diagnose and repair RTG crane mechanical systems.
• Maintain:
  • Engines
  • Transmission systems
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Auxiliary equipment
• Perform planned preventive maintenance.
• Inspect critical crane components.
• Identify defects and implement corrective solutions.
• Support emergency breakdown repairs to minimize operational interruptions.

5. Port Forklift Maintenance and Repair

• Maintain and repair forklifts and heavy material handling equipment.
• Diagnose and repair:
  • Diesel engines
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Powertrain components
  • Transmission systems
• Install, replace, and test spare parts.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Ensure equipment meets OEM and DP World standards.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE)

The role requires strict compliance with DP World HSSE requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Follow DP World safety policies and procedures.
• Comply with:
  • Permit-to-Work (PTW)
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Risk assessment procedures
• Report:
  • Unsafe conditions
  • Incidents
  • Near misses
  • Equipment defects
• Maintain a clean and organized workshop.
• Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely.

• Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
• Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
• Preventive maintenance compliance rate.

• Effective use of spare parts and maintenance resources.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have:

• Degree or Diploma in:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Heavy Equipment Maintenance
  • Diesel Technology
  • Related technical fields

Additional certifications in:

• Diesel engine systems
• Automatic transmissions
• Hydraulics
• Heavy equipment maintenance

will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Minimum 5 years of experience maintaining and repairing:
  • Heavy-duty diesel equipment
  • Port equipment
  • Construction equipment
  • Mining equipment
  • Industrial machinery
• Proven experience in:
  • Engine overhauls
  • Transmission repairs
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Equipment diagnostics

Experience with the following is highly desirable:

• RTG cranes
• Port tractors
• Reach stackers
• Forklifts
• Terminal equipment
