Job Summary
The Liability Products Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and growing the bank’s retail liability products. The role focuses on product strategy, pricing, market research, product development, sales growth, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring products remain competitive while meeting customer needs and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Management (50%)
- Develop and agree on income targets for retail banking liability products.
- Develop local product pricing strategies and obtain the necessary approvals.
- Conduct product research, development, and implementation.
- Prepare monthly tariff reports to identify pricing errors and revenue leakages.
- Collaborate with key departments including:
- Operations
- Retail Credit
- Marketing
- Drive balance sheet growth in line with strategic targets.
- Plan and execute product campaigns and sales activation initiatives.
- Develop medium-term product growth plans and margin forecasts.
- Review monthly product income performance against balance sheet and profit targets.
- Monitor competitor products and market trends.
- Recommend product enhancements by improving features and customer benefits.
- Develop innovative liability product solutions.
- Deliver product training to internal teams.
- Increase customer awareness through:
- Social media
- Above-the-line marketing campaigns
- Below-the-line marketing activities
2. Product Development & Implementation (30%)
- Prepare business cases for new liability products.
- Obtain internal approvals for new product launches.
- Work with project teams during:
- System Integration Testing (SIT)
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Support implementation of new liability products.
- Manage enhancements to existing liability products.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders to increase product adoption.
- Coordinate product governance activities through Product Risk Governance forums.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Technical Support, Stakeholder Engagement & Training (10%)
- Provide market intelligence on competitor products.
- Support development and delivery of product training.
- Resolve customer complaints relating to liability products.
- Work with Technology teams to resolve system-related issues.
- Ensure websites and banking channels display accurate product information and pricing.
- Monitor compliance with sales processes through regular reviews and audits.
- Identify product knowledge gaps and coordinate staff training with the Learning and Development team.
4. Risk & Control (10%)
- Report risk events promptly.
- Understand operational risks and applicable controls.
- Comply with Absa policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting liability products.
- Complete all mandatory compliance training within required timelines.
Minimum Qualifications
- National Diploma or Advanced Certificate in:
- Business
- Commerce
- Management Studies
- Or a related field.
