Job Description

The Operations Manager will support Senior Management in the effective management and day-to-day running of Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge. The role involves overseeing lodge operations, supporting staff development, maintaining guest satisfaction, coordinating departments, and ensuring that &Beyond standards are consistently maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Management in the overall responsibility for the effective management and running of Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge.
  • Assist in training and developing staff as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Grumeti team to ensure seamless daily operations.
  • Place daily operational orders in a timely and budget-sensitive manner and delegate where necessary.
  • Participate in the management, implementation and updating of the lodge FBC to-do lists.
  • Ensure that an environment where the &Beyond Golden Thread and Brand Standard are continuously met and visible throughout the daily functioning of the lodge.
  • Ensure the lodge styling guide and styling updates are documented and work closely with the Hospitality Training team to ensure clear communication.
  • Ensure administrative functions within the lodge are maintained and monitor beverage control.
  • Ensure guest information and requests are shared and gathered for all guests arriving at or departing from &Beyond properties.
  • Check in and check out all guests.
  • Assist with checking guest rooms and ensure guest areas are always neat.
  • Host and interact with guests daily and communicate feedback when necessary.
  • Be aware of, and ensure chefs are informed about, special dietary requirements and special occasions.
  • Assist with uniform orders and related issues and ensure all staff wear the correct uniform.
  • Oversee all Food and Beverage aspects of Grumeti and ensure they meet company standards.
  • Ensure a high standard of personal hygiene.
  • Be friendly, considerate and greet all guests and staff.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with other staff.
  • Manage day-to-day guest itineraries and activities, ensuring guest delights happen daily and that there is clear and effective communication between all departments.
  • Attend management meetings.
  • Lead the Green Team and conservation initiatives at Grumeti.
  • Keep the region regularly informed about Grumeti stories.
  • Assist with social media and other PR-related communication.
  • Manage Staff Delight activities, including &Beyond Life activities and staff swaps.
  • Allow for flexible working hours.
  • Pay close attention to day-sheet information, including dietary requirements, medical requirements, room configurations and pre-booked activities.
  • Assist with checking the lodge forecast and other office administration.
  • Work towards the sustainability of each department and the company by reducing waste and caring for company property.
  • Go the extra mile for guests and staff.
  • Be flexible when responding to unexpected requests from guests.
  • Connect with guests daily to ensure they are happy and receiving a personalised experience.
  • Be motivated, friendly and proactive when dealing with lodge operations and guest expectations.
  • Be responsible for upholding &Beyond standards within the lodge.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with staff and other departments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Higher Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management.
  • 3–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Computer literate.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written.
