Job Summary

The primary purpose of this role is to safely operate and maintain defined Packaging equipment and related processes to achieve optimal operational effectiveness, quality, and efficiency, in line with AB InBev standards and safety requirements.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Operating and Process Control

  • Operate packaging plant sub-processes in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and plant control systems.
  • Monitor raw material quality to ensure compliance with Company and Regional standards; identify and correct deviations.
  • Prepare plant for start-up by verifying brand and process changes, availability of inputs, utilities, documentation, calibrated equipment, and plant readiness.
  • Start up, operate, and shut down packaging processes in compliance with OH&S requirements, ensuring all deviations are documented and concession/permit procedures followed.
  • Perform CIP cleaning, sampling, measurement of CIP outputs, external cleaning, and visual inspections for cleanliness.
  • Control input usage and stock levels in line with regional requirements; conduct quality checks and ensure proper storage.
  • Ensure plant availability through scheduled and ad hoc maintenance, supporting root cause identification for breakdowns and complying with lock-out and OH&S procedures.
  • Monitor process performance against targets, record short stops, initiate corrective actions, and document waste trends.
  • Respond promptly to upstream and downstream process triggers to prevent out-of-control situations.
  • Apply approved problem-solving methods and maintain high housekeeping standards using 5S principles.
  • Support team members in task execution and ensure safe work practices.

2. Maintenance of Plant and Equipment

  • Conduct in-depth cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of plant equipment per SOPs and maintenance schedules.
  • Perform autonomous maintenance tasks and request artisan support when required.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues to the Team Leader.
  • Assist Packaging Artisans with running repairs during shifts.
  • Complete all maintenance and shift documentation, including job cards and COSWIN notifications.

3. Quality Control and Analysis

  • Perform required quality checks and analyses as per SOPs and record results accurately.
  • Monitor quality performance against targets and conduct trend analysis to identify issues.
  • Coach and support team members in executing quality checks and transferring knowledge.
  • Identify and resolve quality issues using approved problem-solving methodologies.

4. Communication

  • Actively participate in shift meetings and contribute improvement suggestions.
  • Maintain and update gap lists for issues, problems, and improvement opportunities.
  • Interpret team dashboards and engage in target review sessions.
  • Use communication tools such as shift logbooks to ensure information flow.
  • Conduct effective shift handovers covering plant performance, quality, and maintenance matters.

5. Problem Solving

  • Apply structured problem-solving tools such as Quick Fix Routines, 5 Whys, and Fishbone Analysis.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the Team Leader.
  • Verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions and participate in team problem-solving initiatives.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Use Short Interval Control (SIC) charts to identify waste and process variation.
  • Record and pursue continuous improvement opportunities via gap lists.
  • Participate in regional or divisional plant optimization trials.

7. Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) Practices

  • Execute shift routines in line with Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) principles.
  • Continuously improve personal competence and support team development in line with the Global Competence Framework (SKAP).
  • Practice self-management and participate in team and individual performance management processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience within the FMCG industry will be an added advantage.
  • Understanding of VPO principles.
