Position Summary
The Patient Safety Officer is responsible for:
- Strengthening a patient safety culture
- Promoting patient-centered care
- Reducing clinical risks and adverse outcomes
- Supporting continuous quality improvement across the hospital
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with:
- Joint Commission International (JCI) standards
- SafeCare and internal hospital policies
- Implement and monitor International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG)
- Conduct:
- Internal clinical audits
- External audit participation
- Participate in:
- Mortality and morbidity reviews
- Clinical policy development
- Provide:
- Training and mentorship on patient safety standards
- Support during CME & CNE sessions
- Prepare:
- Monthly & quarterly IPSG reports
- Patient safety data validation
- Lead and coordinate:
- Incident reviews
- Root cause analyses (e.g., falls, pressure ulcers)
- Monitor:
- Patient transfers and ambulance services (audits)
- Conduct:
- Chart audits
- Clinical documentation reviews
- Support improvements in clinical systems and patient outcomes
- Assist in JCI accreditation processes and quality initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required)
- Valid license with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC)
- Minimum 2 years’ clinical experience in a hospital setting
- Background in:
- Health Management
- Public Health (advantage)
