Job Overview
Coca-Cola Kwanza Ltd, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), is seeking a qualified and experienced Plant Engineer to join its Manufacturing Department in Mbeya.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in asset management, maintenance, plant reliability, engineering support, equipment optimization, safety, and team management to improve plant availability, reliability, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Asset Management
- Drive implementation of the CCK Asset Management Strategy at plant level.
- Provide technical leadership on asset management, reliability, productivity, and maintainability.
- Support implementation of standard work practices.
- Ensure compliance with the Asset Care Philosophy and related strategies.
2. Asset Care & Maintenance
- Develop and implement asset care plans for the packaging plant.
- Ensure engineering teams have the competencies required to execute maintenance plans.
- Identify and address training needs.
- Ensure compliance with asset care audits.
- Control the asset care budget.
- Evaluate CAPIN requests for compatibility, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop the plant maintenance budget.
3. Plant Reliability
- Take overall responsibility for packaging plant reliability and uptime.
- Lead engineering support to production teams.
- Drive packaging performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure proper implementation of predictive maintenance.
- Verify routine and planned maintenance activities.
- Ensure maintenance outages are properly planned and executed.
- Review maintenance execution scorecards and address abnormalities.
- Ensure maintenance packages are updated and engineering changes are implemented.
4. Plant Optimization
- Participate in plant optimization trials and projects.
- Evaluate and approve plant modifications and equipment changes.
- Analyze plant performance data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Investigate equipment failure modes and recurring failures.
- Identify and implement root-cause solutions.
- Promote continuous improvement within the engineering team.
5. Team Leadership
- Lead and develop the engineering team.
- Establish and communicate team goals.
- Conduct performance reviews and one-on-one sessions.
- Identify training needs and develop training plans.
- Promote multi-skilling across engineering teams.
- Evaluate team workmanship and competencies.
- Manage outsourced maintenance contractors and ensure compliance with service contracts.
6. Safety & Housekeeping
- Ensure employees follow safety and housekeeping procedures.
- Ensure compliance with CCBA policies and applicable legislation, including the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements.
- Ensure statutory and mandatory equipment checks are conducted and documented.
- Conduct regular safety and housekeeping checks and audits.
- Correct unsafe work practices immediately.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirement:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Engineering, preferably:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
Added Advantage:
- Successful experience as a Packaging & Utility Manager.
Required Experience
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in maintenance.
- Ideally 5 years’ experience maintaining packaging equipment.
- Previous line-management experience is an added advantage.
Required Skills & Competencies
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Broad engineering and packaging knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of packaging operations, processes, and systems.
- Deep understanding of asset management and OEM partnering.
- Knowledge of project management.
- Understanding of CCBA Asset Management standards and the Manufacturing Way.
- Knowledge of packaging materials and related consumables.
- Strong understanding of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE).
- Knowledge of financial management and performance management.
- Talent management and industrial-relations knowledge.
- Strong leadership and team-management capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
