POSITION SUMMARY
The U.S. Mission in Tanzania is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Procurement Supervisor within the General Services Office.
The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the procurement section and managing the acquisition of goods and services for the Department of State and other subscribing agencies.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Oversee procurement and contracting operations
- Establish procedures, priorities, and procurement schedules
- Coordinate and manage purchasing activities across departments
- Supervise a team of seven staff members
- Manage procurement systems (ILMS/Ariba)
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Government procurement regulations
- Coordinate supply tracking and contracting processes
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience Options
Option 1
- Bachelor’s degree in procurement, business administration, supply chain management, or related field
- 5 years procurement experience (purchasing, contracting, pricing)
- 2 years supervisory experience
Option 2
- 2 years of university/college education (any field)
- 7 years procurement experience
- 2 years supervisory experience
Option 3
- Completion of secondary school
- 8 years procurement experience
- 2 years supervisory experience
Language Requirements
- English: Level IV (Fluent – speaking, reading, writing, translation)
- Kiswahili: Level IV (Fluent – speaking, reading, writing, translation)
Job Knowledge
- Strong understanding of procurement and contracting processes
- Knowledge of supply chain management and financial principles
- Familiarity with local market conditions and supplier capabilities
- Understanding of ethical and sustainable procurement practices
Skills & Abilities
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills
- Leadership and team management ability
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Problem-solving capability in complex procurement environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Good numerical and financial management skills
REQUIREMENTS
All selected candidates must:
- Obtain and maintain security certification
- Pass medical clearance
- Pass background investigation
- Be available to start within a reasonable timeframe after clearance
