Project Coordinator

FDUV – Inclusion Finland and TAMH – Tanzania Association of the Intellectually Handicapped are recruiting a Project Coordinator for the project:

Social and Economic Inclusion of People with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families in Tanzania


Project Overview

The project aims to promote full social and economic inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities (PWID) and their families in Tanzania. PWID often face marginalization, stigma, discrimination, and limited access to fundamental human rights such as education, employment, and equal participation in society.

The project supports TAMH through three core pillars:

  1. Capacity Building
  2. Empowerment of PWID and their families
  3. Advocacy for disability inclusion and rights

The overall objective is to strengthen TAMH’s organizational capacity, empower its members, and enhance advocacy efforts at both national and local levels. The recruitment of a Project Coordinator is a critical first step in restoring and strengthening TAMH’s organizational structure, as the organization currently has no permanent staff.


Project Information

  • Project Name: Social and Economic Inclusion of People with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Families in Tanzania (Pilot)
  • Location: Tanzania – project areas covering Dar es Salaam and Coast Region
    • Office based in Dar es Salaam
  • Project Duration:
    • Two-year pilot project (2026–2027)
    • Employment until December 2027, with a possibility of a two-year extension if the project continues
  • Budget: €40,000 per year

Key Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will play a central role in implementing project activities and rebuilding the organizational capacity of TAMH.

1. Organizational and Financial Management

  • Oversee staff employment, including supervision of a newly recruited part-time accountant
  • Organize and participate in board meetings and trainings for TAMH staff and board members on:
    • Organizational development
    • Project and financial management
  • Ensure clear, transparent, and timely project implementation reports
  • Ensure bookkeeping, audits, and financial reports are produced in compliance with DPF standards, in collaboration with the accountant
  • Lead the development of a new organizational strategy for TAMH together with the Board and prepare it for approval by the General Assembly (subject to project continuation)

2. Programme Implementation and Coordination

  • Facilitate implementation of the project’s three core components:
    • Capacity development
    • Empowerment of members
    • Advocacy
  • Organize peer support group meetings for PWID and their families
  • Manage and coordinate project trainings, including:
    • Disability rights workshops
    • Advocacy trainings (2–3 per region)
    • Engagement of external experts and facilitators
  • Ensure activities align with the Outcomes and Outputs defined in the Project Results Framework
  • Participate in networks, steering committees, and meetings related to disability inclusion and rights

3. Monitoring and Communication

  • Establish and manage data collection and monitoring systems, currently absent within TAMH
  • Collaborate closely with the FDUV Project Coordinator in Finland through regular coordination meetings
  • Support outreach to media and communication platforms in collaboration with the TAMH Board
  • Coordinate production and dissemination of informational materials about TAMH and the project

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in:
    • Project Management
    • Administration Management
    • Community Development
    • Social Sciences
    • Or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Project management
    • Project implementation, monitoring, and reporting
  • Prior experience working with:
    • NGOs
    • Community-based projects
    • Project coordination roles
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Good command of Swahili
  • Experience in disability rights advocacy is a strong asset
