About the Role

People Project is recruiting on behalf of a leading construction company for an experienced and results-oriented Project Manager.
In this role, you will provide overall leadership and accountability for assigned projects—ensuring delivery within approved contractual scope, budgets, timelines, quality standards, and health and safety requirements. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers while maintaining effective project controls, commercial discipline, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Execution

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive project execution plans, programmes, and schedules.
  • Establish project milestones, resource requirements, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly progress against approved programmes; implement recovery plans for identified bottlenecks or delays.
  • Coordinate the mobilization and allocation of manpower, materials, plant, and equipment across sites.
  • Oversee project activities seamlessly from site mobilization through to completion and final handover.

2. Project Cost & Commercial Management

  • Execute projects within approved budgets, contract parameters, and BOQs.
  • Coordinate with Quantity Surveyors and Finance on billing, interim payment certificates (IPCs), collections, retentions, variations, and claims.
  • Monitor subcontractor costs, work orders, commitments, and overall project profitability.
  • Ensure additional works and variations are properly evaluated, documented, and approved per contractual procedures.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.

3. Technical Coordination & Quality Management

  • Lead technical stakeholders including Project/Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Architects, and Consultants.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical submissions.
  • Coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, drawing revisions, and design clarifications.
  • Oversee inspections, testing, quality verification, and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) to ensure full compliance with client specifications.

4. Subcontractor & Resource Management

  • Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, and deployment against agreed scopes and timelines.
  • Verify completed works and measurements alongside the Quantity Surveying team to authorize payments.
  • Address performance gaps and optimize resource utilization (manpower, plant, and equipment).

5. Procurement & Materials Management

  • Collaborate with Procurement and Stores to ensure timely supply of materials and site equipment.
  • Monitor material consumption, wastage, stock variances, and investigate unexplained shortages.
  • Ensure material requisitions, site issues, and inter-site transfers are properly logged via approved GTN/ERP procedures.

6. Project Controls, ERP & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate project transactions, commitments, and risk registers within the company’s ERP system.
  • Prepare regular progress reports including daily/weekly/monthly updates, cost-to-complete forecasts, cash-flow reports, and resource utilization metrics.
  • Keep senior management informed of project performance, key risks, and areas requiring strategic intervention.

7. Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Lead progress meetings, manage project correspondence, and resolve technical or operational issues promptly.

8. Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)

  • Enforce compliance with company HSE policies, Tanzanian safety legislation, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections, ensure proper use of PPE, and investigate any safety incidents or near misses.
  • Exercise full authority to stop unsafe work practices across project sites.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology, or a related field.
  • Professional Registration: Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Graduate or Professional Engineer is an added advantage.
  • Certifications: PMP or PRINCE2 certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record managing medium- to large-scale construction projects (commercial buildings, civil works, etc.).
    • Strong background in project planning, resource coordination, and cost control.
    • Practical experience managing contractors, consultants, and site teams.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in ERP systems, project management software, MS Project, MS Office, and AutoCAD.
    • Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOQs, and technical documentation.
  • Other Requirements: Valid driving license.
