About the Role

RIU Hotels & Resorts is seeking an analytical, proactive, and results-driven Purchasing Manager to lead its procurement department in Zanzibar.

The successful candidate will oversee the complete purchasing lifecycle for food and non-food items, optimize hotel financial performance, maintain standard cost controls, and ensure high-quality supplier standards across RIU’s Zanzibar properties.

Key Responsibilities

1. Reporting and Corporate Alignment

  • Report directly to the Regional Corporate Purchasing Manager.
  • Ensure local purchasing operations are fully aligned with global corporate purchasing guidelines.

2. Tender Creation and Analysis

  • Prepare, launch, and manage procurement tenders for food and non-food items.
  • Conduct preliminary supplier comparisons.
  • Work with the corporate department team on supplier analysis and final approval.

3. Procurement Operations

  • Direct all daily purchasing activities.
  • Source food and non-food items in accordance with company standards.
  • Monitor compliance with procurement contracts.
  • Prevent operational disruptions for all contracted items.

4. Standard Costing and Variance Analysis

  • Manage standard pricing models.
  • Analyze monthly prices and price deviations.
  • Identify and monitor cost variances.
  • Track supplier compliance.
  • Protect operational margins through effective purchasing and cost management.

5. Team Leadership

  • Lead, guide, and motivate the procurement team.
  • Develop team talent and maintain high morale.
  • Ensure effective procurement operations within a fast-paced resort environment.

6. Collaboration

  • Work closely with other departments to anticipate supply requirements.
  • Ensure seamless supply of goods and materials to support resort operations.

2 – Intermediate (B1/B2): Can handle most workplace interactions and write simple emails, but may struggle with nuanced communication or very fast-paced group meetings.

3 – Upper-Intermediate (B2+): Can communicate fluently with colleagues and clients and give presentations and write professional reports with minor errors.

4 – Advanced / Fluent (C1): Can express ideas effortlessly and understand subtle professional jargon. Comfortable leading high-stakes negotiations and complex projects.

5 – Proficient / Near-Native (C2): Can understand virtually everything heard or read and has a high level of command of English, including idioms, cultural references, and complex technical terminology.
