Quality Controller – Barrick
Location: Tarime, Mara Region, Tanzania
Position Overview
The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Quality Controller to join its team at the North Mara Gold Mine. The successful candidate will support drilling and blasting operations by ensuring quality control standards, safe handling of explosives, and compliance with operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities
The Quality Controller will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the blasting area is properly demarcated before charging.
- Safely handling and storing explosives on the bench.
- Dipping drilled holes to verify that design parameters have been achieved.
- Priming blast holes with bulk explosives.
- Checking both initial and final stemming heights during charging.
- Ensuring correct stemming of blast holes.
- Spotting the stemming loader operator while traversing the charged pattern.
- Conducting housekeeping activities on the charged blast pattern.
- Assisting in the final tie-up of the charged pattern.
- Acting as a Blast Guard when required.
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or higher.

Experience & Competencies
Candidates should have:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience, preferably in a drill and blast section or open-pit mining environment.
- Valid Tanzania Driving License.
- Ability to drive a manual (stick shift) transmission vehicle.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe working practices.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail.
- Good technical skills with the ability to interpret schematics.

The North Mara Gold Mine is located in Tarime District, Mara Region, north-western Tanzania.
Location
- Approximately 100 km east of Lake Victoria.
- Approximately 20 km south of the Kenya border.
Operations
Commercial production began in 2002.
The mine consists of:
- Gokona – Underground mine.
- Nyabirama – Open-pit mine.
Processing Plant
- Processes an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
