Job Summary
The Recovery Officer will be responsible for managing defaulted borrowers and implementing effective recovery strategies to maximize loan collections and minimize losses.
The role involves working closely with business teams, legal teams, and other stakeholders to ensure timely, cost-effective, and successful recovery actions while protecting the bank’s profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Loan Recovery and Collections Management
The Recovery Officer will:
- Manage accounts with overdue loans and defaults.
- Develop recovery strategies to improve collection performance.
- Follow up with customers to recover outstanding obligations.
- Ensure timely execution of recovery actions.
- Monitor recovery progress and maintain accurate records.
- Support achievement of recovery targets.
2. Customer Engagement and Negotiation
Responsibilities include:
- Engage with defaulting customers to understand repayment challenges.
- Negotiate repayment arrangements where appropriate.
- Maintain professional relationships while pursuing recoveries.
- Provide solutions that improve repayment outcomes.
3. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
The role requires working closely with:
- Business teams
- Credit teams
- Legal department
- External stakeholders
Responsibilities include:
- Escalating complex recovery cases.
- Supporting legal recovery processes.
- Coordinating actions to maximize recovery rates.
4. Reporting and Monitoring
The Recovery Officer will:
- Prepare recovery reports.
- Track portfolio performance.
- Analyze recovery trends.
- Provide updates on collection progress.
- Maintain proper documentation of recovery activities.
Required Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:
- Knowledge of loan recovery and collections processes.
- Understanding of banking and credit operations.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to handle difficult customer interactions.
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and strong record management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet recovery targets.
Preferred Experience
Experience in:
- Banking operations
- Credit management
- Debt collection
- Loan recovery
- Customer relationship management
will be an added advantage.
