About Laterite

Laterite is a data, research, and analytics firm working on complex development challenges. The organization partners with universities, global think tanks, international NGOs, multilateral donors, and government ministries.

Its clients include the World Bank, TechnoServe, and the Mastercard Foundation, among others.

Laterite operates across the Netherlands, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Peru, with more than 90 full-time staff and over 2,000 enumerators.

Laterite was founded in 2010 in Kigali, and its Dar es Salaam office was established in 2021. Its Tanzania portfolio covers data collection and full-cycle research projects, particularly in education, public health, and agriculture.

The successful candidate will be based in Dar es Salaam and will also support Laterite’s Uganda team remotely on projects covering agriculture, public health, education, and energy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Supporting Research Projects

  • Support ethical approval processes, research design, and development of research instruments.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Draft sections of client reports and presentations.
  • Support communication with clients and internal project teams regarding project progress.

2. Contributing to Data Collection

  • Code survey instruments using SurveyCTO and other ODK-based platforms.
  • Collaborate with field teams to develop training materials and support enumerator training.
  • Participate in field visits to understand and improve data collection processes.

3. Strengthening Data Quality and Analysis

  • Monitor, clean, and validate incoming survey data.
  • Work closely with field teams to resolve data quality issues.
  • Support statistical analysis and interpretation of findings.
  • Contribute to consultancy-quality reports and data-driven insights.

4. Business Development – Optional

Candidates interested in business development may contribute to:

  • Proactive business development activities.
  • Development of technical and financial proposals.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A completed Master’s degree in Economics, Public Health, Development, or a related field.
  • At least one year of professional experience in similar roles or tasks.
  • Experience gained through internships, dissertation work, or academic research groups may be considered where the candidate can demonstrate that the experience meets the role requirements.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in Stata.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili.

Additional Experience and Skills

The following are also welcomed:

  • Experience with ODK-based platforms such as SurveyCTO.
  • Previous work experience in Tanzania.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work collaboratively.

Salary and Benefits

  • Gross monthly salary: TZS 7,311,684 – TZS 9,704,383, depending on experience and interview assessment.

Application Process

The recruitment process consists of several stages:

1. Online Assessment

Candidates must complete a 30-minute verbal reasoning and quantitative assessment. No special preparation is required.

2. Application

Candidates who successfully complete the online assessment will be invited to complete a brief screening questionnaire and submit their CV through Laterite’s online application system.

3. Analytical Assessment

Shortlisted candidates will complete a technical exercise involving statistical analysis using Stata, R, or Python.

4. Interviews

Candidates who successfully complete the analytical assessment will proceed to the interview stage, which consists of up to three interviews.
