Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day processing of claims from branches for SASTAIN projects. Key focuses include processing staff claims, initiating expenditure recording in the ERP, supporting donor reporting, and managing end-of-month cut-off processes.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Processing: Ensure timely settlement of payables and accurate recording of expenditure entries in the ERP.

Claim Management: Timely processing of per diems, transport, and stipend payments for SASTAIN project staff.

Account Management: Monthly management of branch suspense accounts.

Tax & Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax laws (Withholding taxes) and prepare timely tax returns.

Risk Management: Implement and update the EBTL risk register and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) for the finance department.

Audit Support: Coordinate statutory audits of program financial statements and internal/external audits for donor-funded projects.

Reporting: Drive measurable donor reporting support and ensure compliance with donor contractual requirements.
Key Decisions

Reviewing and approving project staff claims and invoices to ensure they meet policy requirements.

Deciding on the appropriate categorization of transactions to avoid errors during ERP entry.
Qualifications and Experience

Education: Degree in a business-related course.

Professional Qualification: CPA(T) or ACCA qualification.

Experience: 5+ years in finance operations as an accountant.

Added Advantage: Previous experience working with donor-funded programs.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (advanced spreadsheets), ERP, and DMIS.
Required Skills and Competencies

In-depth knowledge of donor-specific financial guidelines and compliance.

High level of accuracy in preparing financial reports.

Clear and effective communication skills.

Ability to collaborate with various teams within the bank.

Capacity to train and mentor staff on financial best practices.
