About Médecins du Monde (MdM)

Médecins du Monde (MdM) is an international humanitarian organization committed to providing healthcare services to vulnerable populations around the world.

MdM has been operating in Tanzania since 1994, initially focusing on HIV/AIDS and community health programmes. In 2010, the organization established Tanzania’s first comprehensive harm reduction programme in Temeke, Dar es Salaam, helping reduce HIV transmission and other infectious diseases among people who inject drugs.

Since 2021, MdM has expanded its harm reduction services nationally and regionally. In 2022, the organization broadened its interventions to include Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services targeting adolescents and other vulnerable populations.

MdM currently implements several health initiatives, including:

  • CUTTS HEP C Research Project, supporting hepatitis C elimination through prevention, treatment, research, and community engagement.
  • Nalinda Afya Project (launched January 2024), a three-year initiative aimed at reducing HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and viral hepatitis among key populations through integrated prevention, testing, treatment, and referral services.

The organization also seeks to:

  • Expand harm reduction services.
  • Strengthen technical assistance.
  • Scale up SRHR interventions.
  • Improve emergency preparedness and response.
  • Address emerging humanitarian and public health challenges.

Reporting Line

The SRHR Officer will report directly to the Medical Coordinator and will work closely with:

  • MEAL Officer.
  • Health service providers.
  • Partner NGOs and Civil Society Organizations.
  • MdM Coordination Team.

Overall Purpose of the Position

The SRHR Officer will support the implementation of the Nalinda Afya III and Safe Abortion Care projects in Dar es Salaam.

The position focuses on improving access to:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.
  • Harm reduction services.
  • HIV prevention and treatment.
  • STI prevention and treatment.
  • Viral hepatitis services.

The officer will coordinate project implementation, strengthen partnerships, monitor programme quality, support reporting, and ensure compliance with MdM standards and donor requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning and Implementation

The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate daily implementation of project activities in line with approved work plans and budgets.
  • Work closely with partner organizations to implement awareness campaigns, advocacy activities, referrals, and follow-up services.
  • Establish SRHR referral pathways with health facilities.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers to promote stigma-free and inclusive service delivery.
  • Support HIV, STI, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C prevention, testing, treatment, vaccination, and referral activities.
  • Organize:
    • Trainings.
    • Workshops.
    • Dialogue sessions.
    • Biannual review meetings.
    • Lesson-sharing events.
    • Data quality assessments.
  • Engage government authorities, police, health professionals, and community stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress using approved indicators.
  • Ensure timely collection, verification, and submission of programme data.
  • Conduct regular field visits for supportive supervision and quality improvement.

Reporting and Documentation

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing regular activity reports.
  • Updating project monitoring tools.
  • Supporting donor and internal reporting.
  • Documenting success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.

Capacity Building

The officer will:

  • Organize capacity-building sessions for local partners.
  • Provide continuous technical support and mentorship.

Learning and Accountability

The role includes:

  • Documenting programme achievements and lessons learned.
  • Supporting community feedback and accountability mechanisms.
  • Promoting confidentiality and protection principles.
  • Ensuring beneficiaries’ dignity and rights are respected.

Collaboration and Coordination

The successful candidate will:

  • Support planning, procurement forecasting, and logistical coordination.
  • Coordinate closely with:
    • Partner organizations.
    • Healthcare providers.
    • Outreach workers.
    • Peer educators.
    • Finance, HR, Logistics, and Security departments.
  • Represent MdM in SRHR-related meetings and workshops.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Public Health.
  • Project Management.
  • Social Sciences.
  • Medicine.
  • Nursing.
  • Community Development.
  • Any other related field.

Professional Experience

Applicants should have:

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience managing or supporting:
    • SRHR programmes.
    • HIV/AIDS programmes.
    • Harm reduction projects.
    • Community-based public health initiatives.
  • Experience working with:
    • NGOs.
    • Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
    • Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
    • Public health facilities.
  • Good knowledge of:
    • HIV/AIDS.
    • STIs.
    • Viral Hepatitis.
    • Harm reduction approaches.
    • Inclusive health service delivery.
  • Experience working in Dar es Salaam or with Tanzanian health authorities is an added advantage.
