3. Job Purpose

The Specialist, Financial Crime Controls will support the design, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of financial crime controls across NMB Bank.

The successful candidate will help ensure that the bank’s anti-money laundering controls, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, investigations, and other financial crime prevention measures remain effective and comply with applicable regulatory requirements.

4. Key Responsibilities

A. Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Terrorism Financing, and Counter-Proliferation Financing (AML/CFT/CPF) Controls

  • Review and assess Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and ongoing customer monitoring processes.
  • Assess customer profiles, expected account activity, source of funds, and, where appropriate, source of wealth.
  • Support the identification and escalation of unusual or potentially suspicious customer activity.
  • Review transaction monitoring alerts and support investigations when required.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting suspicious transaction or activity reports in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Monitor high-risk customers, jurisdictions, products, and transactions.

B. Sanctions and Screening

  • Review and investigate potential sanctions-screening matches.
  • Ensure appropriate escalation and disposition of screening cases.
  • Assist in maintaining effective controls for sanctions compliance and screening-related risks.

C. Transaction Monitoring and Investigations

  • Review transaction monitoring alerts and investigate unusual or potentially suspicious activities.
  • Identify potential money laundering, terrorist financing, proliferation financing, and other financial crime typologies.
  • Investigate suspected suspicious transactions and activities.
  • Escalate material or suspicious transactions in accordance with the bank’s established procedures.
  • Prepare comprehensive investigation reports and recommendations.

D. Financial Crime Risk Assessment

  • Support enterprise-level and business-level money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing risk assessments.
  • Assess risks associated with customers, products, services, delivery channels, and geographic locations.
  • Identify emerging financial crime risks and typologies.

E. Policies, Procedures, and Governance

  • Contribute to the development and periodic review of AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, and other financial crime policies and procedures.
  • Ensure procedures remain consistent with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide accurate management information on transaction monitoring, investigations, control testing, and remediation.
  • Support financial crime governance committees.
  • Prepare relevant reports and presentations.

F. Training and Awareness

  • Support AML/CFT/CPF and financial crime awareness programmes.
  • Assist in identifying staff training needs.

5. Required Knowledge and Skills

Applicants should demonstrate the following knowledge and competencies:

  • Familiarity with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), Counter-Proliferation Financing (CPF), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and sanctions-screening rules and regulations.
  • Good understanding of financial crime risk management practices.
  • Expert knowledge of AML transaction monitoring systems, analytical and investigative processes, and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of AML and financial crime prevention.
  • Knowledge of sanctions and watchlist screening.
  • Strong investigation and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

6. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:

  • Banking
  • Finance
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Law
  • Business Administration
  • Actuarial Science
  • Data Science
  • Computer Science
  • A related field

Professional Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in banking, financial services, AML/CFT, compliance, or financial crime investigations.

Professional Certifications

Professional certification in AML, financial crime, compliance, or sanctions control will be an added advantage. Relevant certifications include:

  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).
  • Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS).
  • Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS).
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
